Stress Response Adapted Notes and Activities

This product focuses on the following areas: This product provides students with information regarding stress. Students will complete a stress test and reflect on what may cause them stress. Fight/flight/freeze response is also reviewed in this product and how it relates with stress. Once students have taken the stress test, they will analyze their results. Students will work in groups and complete the packet regarding the effects of stress. Students will answer questions such as how they felt when they were feeling stressed, etc. Students will review the effects of stress charts provided that include what happens when the body is in fight or flight compared to when it is relaxed. Students will also learn about the emotional, physical, and mental effects of stress and see how they differ from one another. Students will learn what stress and stressors are when they discuss coping with stress. Healthy and unhealthy strategies to cope with stress are included in this product. Students will take time to reflect on a time when they were stressed or if they were stressed and answer questions regarding making healthy or unhealthy choices to cope with stress.
Throughout this product, students will answer comprehension questions and will also be presented with social scenarios that they may encounter where they are asked how they would feel or what they would do. An attitude survey regarding mental health that contains 10 questions is also included in this product. Students will compare their results when they are finished and will go over the correct answers.

Positive Self Talk Social Emotional Learning Lesson

In this product, students will be provided with a list of positive words and will choose 10 positive words that describe themselves. Students will then narrow that list of 10 positive words down to 3. They will explain why that word describes them. Students will answer questions about themselves - Example: What is your favorite color? What is your favorite hobby? etc., Students will then describe themselves - what color eyes they have, what color their hair is, what their favorite thing about themselves is, what is something they want to improve on, etc. Students will draw a picture of themselves, and complete the activity of choosing a mirror, printing it out and putting a picture of themselves in the mirror and can share what they like about themselves. This product can be used independently or when students are working in a group. Students can keep their responses private or can share them with their peers.
Mental Health Stigma Activities

This product focuses on the following areas: This product provides students with information regarding stigma. Students will answer questions regarding technology and social media and how they can affect our ability to show compassion to others, why people forget to take care of themselves and show compassion for themselves, how to stop negative thoughts from happening. Students will review the meaning for stigma, stereotype, prejudice, and discrimination. Students will also review what negative things they have heard about people with mental illness, along with positive things. Talking about how others are different and that's what makes them unique, and how others are stigmatized based on how they look, act, etc. Examples of possible stigmas are presented. The meaning of self-stigma and what examples of self-stigma are presented. Students will also review health conditions or social differences that were stigmatized throughout history, and ways to reduce stigma to eliminate negative feelings.

Making Mistakes Social Stories

Each lesson has three levels that are vertically aligned to provide access for ALL students to the standards, the leveled activities are for guided or independent practice. The product - hygiene adapted notes and review includes grooming, skin care, washing your hands and the importance of doing this, eating a balanced diet, protecting skin from the sun - sunburn, your skin and puberty - brief and general overview of what happens during puberty that includes acne, picking acne and what could happen, washing and caring for your hair, using shampoo and conditioner (if needed), how to avoid dandruff and head lice - what not to share with anyone, caring for nails - using nail file and nail clippers, caring for clothing - washing clothing - how to separate, what should be separated, where dirty clothes should go, caring for your teeth - what the teeth are made of, why it is important to care for your teeth, what can develop on your teeth - plaque, what foods should not be consumed to avoid plaque build up, how often one should floss, brush teeth, and visit the dentist, difference between dentist and orthodontist, caring for your eyes, visiting an ophthalmologist, what people use to improve vision if necessary, where light enters eye, diagram showing the parts of the eye, caring for your ears, review the parts of the ear and what each part does, review a diagram that shows the different parts of the ear, where the outer, middle, and inner ear are located, how and why you should protect your ears, visiting an audiologist, measuring the loudness of sound, how some people hear who have a hearing loss, using cochlear implants, hearing aids, and some people who are Deaf don't use amplification, but will use sign language.
