Ways to use:

1. Meet the Teacher Event Invitations: Send personalized postcards to each student before the school year begins, inviting them and their families to a "Meet the Teacher" event. This allows students to get to know their new teacher in a relaxed and friendly setting.
2. Personalized Message: Leave a blank space on the back of the card for a handwritten note. Take a moment to write a short, encouraging message to each student. Mention how excited you are to have them in your class and share a positive expectation for the upcoming year.

This is a basic lesson plan template that is editable in Google Slides. It includes an overview of the week to show what each day's objective (I Can Statement) and standards are. It also includes a template for each day of the week. This Greek and Latin roots and stems file now includes a digital distance learning option in Google Slides™. Please refer to the final 7 pages of the product file for the link and instructions.

Latin and Greek Stems and Roots UNIT TWO includes weekly lists (10 words on each list for eight weeks), a mid-week matching quizzes, as well as end of week tests (which is progressive and include stems from prior weeks). The test at the end of each week has 20 questions (except the first week only has 10 because there isn't an established pool to pull additional parts yet). For the ninth week, there is a final test with all 80 word stems/roots.

Since each week builds on the previous week, the retention of information remains high. My students will keep a ring with the stems and roots flashcards on them in their desks/backpacks and will add ten new stems each week, so that they can study ALL the Latin and Greek stems and roots each week, not just the new ones for that week.

This file is the Second UNIT (a total of NINE weeks).

Why should students learn to use Latin/Greek stems and roots?

• It is part of the COMMON CORE CURRICULUM
• Latin makes unknown English words more accessible
• Children who have studied Latin score higher on standardized tests including SAT, ACT, M-CAT
• It gives children a set of terms to help them unlock unknown words by using word parts
• Studying common Latin stems helps children with math and science vocabulary

Kirsten Tulsian has 18 years of experience in elementary education. She has been a homeroom teacher for first grade, third grade, and fourth grade, as well as ESL. She has also been a school counselor for grades PK-6, an ESL pullout teacher for K-6, and a Reading Recovery Teacher. She received her Bachelor’s degree in elementary education and psychology from The University of Iowa and a Master’s of Education in school counseling from Sam Houston State University. She believes that students make the most progress when they are engaged in their hearts as well as their minds. Psychology Student Learning Goal Checklist Many districts require teachers to post the learning goals for each lesson in the classroom. While this may seem like an unnecessary, extra step at first, it is truly beneficial to the students. I created this packet/spreadsheet to make goal posting simple, effective, and consistent. This can be printed out sheet by sheet and placed into their INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOKS, it can be distributed through a Google Sheet, or into a data folder. This is completely up to you. One way- Student directions: It is based on the work we have done thus far, please put an x in the box that best describes your knowledge of the "I can" statement. Before the unit please use a blue highlighter & before the test please revisit and use a pink highlighter. Another way- Instructions: Step By Step 1. Find the unit we are in right now. 2. Based on the work we have done thus far, please put an x in the box that best describes your knowledge of the "I can" statement. 3. Be sure to revisit this before your test to ensure that You've Got This Down! This is what the Civics team is creating your test off of. If you can move yourself to the final column of "Yes, I can."
