Spanish Write, Speak and Listen Activity for Any Level

By Specialty Spanish

This product contains a 3-part activity to practice writing, speaking and listening for any level of Spanish!  Use these Google activities for distance learning or for students who are in person. Increase motivation and proficiency on the ACTFL scale with this digital activity!

First, students write a short story about a picture related to the unit theme.  They follow a small list of requirements that are fully customizable.  (This activity is written to ask students to use the future tense, but with a few key strokes, this activity can be changed to any tense!)

Next, students will record their story using a recording website.  My students use vocaroo.com.  They will link their recording in a chart.  (There is a sample class chart included in the instructions.)  Students will also create comprehension questions for their story and list them in their chart.

Last, students will listen to a classmate’s recording and answer the accompanying questions. They can use the included peer feedback sheet to offer constructive comments on specific elements of the recording!

I used this during 3 time periods: the writing was done in class, the recording was done for homework, and the listening was done in the next class.  Teachers with block classes could use this activity in one class.

Who can use this product?

  • Students at the Novice level and up

How can I use this product?

  • Student choice improves motivation!

Spanish Saber vs Conocer Grammar Notes and 3 Activities Digital and Printable

By Specialty Spanish

Help your Spanish students work through understanding the difference between Saber and Conocer with these pre-made, no-prep digital or printable activities! Start with some direct instruction with the grammar notes, including how they change meaning in the preterite tense. There are 2 basic practice activities where students analyze a sentence for meaning to choose the correct verb and practice conjugating. The last activity is an interactive Google Slides presentation where students have 2 different drag and drop practices; one asks them to form complete sentences by dragging and dropping tiles together, and the other asks students to match the correct conjugated verb (tense and form) to the English sentence to illustrate the differences in meaning between preterite and imperfect.

There are a few tricks to using these verbs correctly, like "the personal a" with the verb conocer, or the word "que" to mean that when expressing a fact. These notes and practices help students utilize the verbs and the extra grammar points correctly.

Not ready to practice with the preterite and imperfect yet? Just edit these Google docs to your liking!

Who can use this product?

  • Students in Year 2 and above if you want to include preterite and imperfect
  • Students in Year 1 if you only need present tense

AP Spanish Test Prep Argumentative Essay Guided Practice Graphic Organizer

By Specialty Spanish

The Argumentative Essay on the AP Spanish Language and Culture® exam is arguably one of the most challenging parts! Students need a guided way to reflect on their argumentative essay writing and improve it. I needed a way to differentiate instruction and streamline feedback. I created a step-by-step organizer that is digital and printable, so it can be used with Distance Learning or when you have students in person.

This graphic organizer independent work is perfect to assign after students have written one essay for a grade or for feedback and are getting ready to write another one. It takes students through a series of steps asking them to reflect on their past work and the feedback it received. It asks them to review the rules and requirements of the argumentative essay, and it asks them to write certain parts of 2 practice essays. These smaller parts are sections of the essay that, when done well, set the student up for success with the rest of the essay. These small parts will be turned in for feedback from the teacher.

All parts of this product can be changed or customized to meet your students' individual needs!

Spanish Around Town/El Pueblo Vocabulary Activities/Practice/Emergency Sub!

By Churros and Croissants

Be prepared for absences with this hassle-free, print-and-go lesson plan that will keep your students engaged and quietly focused on independent learning.
This emergency sub lesson plan is packed with fun and interactive activities that will enrich your students' Spanish Around Town vocabulary.
Here's what's included in this ready-to-use resource:

  1. Vocabulary List: Kickstart the lesson with a curated list of 25 Spanish Place-themed words.
  2. Repetition-Based Learning: Utilize the power of repetition to solidify vocabulary retention. Students will practice writing Place words multiple times, enhancing their memory and fluency.
  3. Drawing and Labeling: Tap into your students' artistic side as they sketch and label an entire town with their new words. This activity promotes creativity while reinforcing vocabulary and spelling.
  4. Decoding Secret Message: Pictorial symbols provide visual cues that help learners associate meaning with the target language vocabulary. By decoding a message using symbols, learners reinforce their understanding of the language's visual representation.
  5. Alphabetizing: Alphabetizing vocabulary requires active cognitive processing. Students must analyze the words, compare their initial letters, and determine their correct placement in the alphabetical sequence. This cognitive engagement deepens understanding and promotes stronger memory connections with the vocabulary terms.
  6. Short Answer: Provide an opportunity for students to apply the vocabulary in meaningful ways. By constructing responses, students connect the vocabulary to specific contexts, demonstrating their understanding of how the words are used. This application helps with recall and enhances their ability to use it effectively.
  7. Creative Writing: Students draw from previous language knowledge to create complete sentences relevant to the new vocabulary. This is a slightly more advanced activity that allows students to use higher-level thinking and creativity to form sentences using verb tenses and additional they are familiar with.
  8. Code Breaker: Decoding the vocabulary is like solving a puzzle. It encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills as learners work to match the symbols to the correct letters to form vocabulary while providing ongoing review and reinforcement..

Keep your students engaged and quietly learning even if your substitute has ZERO Spanish skills!

*Answer key is included only for the Secret Message and Short Answer activities. Answers will vary for other activities.
