The use of community helpers naturally elicits present tense verbs, while also providing opportunity for vocabulary development. Start by producing short sentences with community helper flashcards, then advance skills by using fill-in-the-blank sentence worksheets, sentence writing worksheets, and reading comprehension worksheets.

Task Cards/Flash Cards can be used to drill correct use of present tense verbs in sentences. They can also be used as memory games or paired with motivating board games. Wh- questions: Ask who, what, where, when, why questions about community helpers. Use reading comprehension passage to answer wh- and inferential questions.
