Time allowance to complete:

5-10 minutes - read through the text individually.

40-50 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)

Time allowance to assess:

A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.

This basic French FSL resource helps to engage students with conversation starting photographs -Things we love to hate. Students will all want to share their opinion while they practice simple French sentences. Immersion students can expand on responses with “parce que…” This activity is great for Valentine's day or any day!

At the end, students can make their own “J’adore” and “Je deteste” folding booklet or slideshow. This is a great "no prep" activity for Valentine’s Day, sub plan or anytime.

Students may also watch the short wordless film. There are questions for class discussion or for students to respond independently in writing.

This is a great low prep activity for anytime of year including Valentine's day.

A YouTube video is also included to explain how Book Creator can be a wonderful application in the second language classroom.

 Start your class off each day with a warm up “question of the day”. It is a great way to get students talking and help you to establish a low stress routine with no extra prep. Many of the “Warm up” activities can be done within a notebook.

It is recommended that you pick a “student leader” to ask the questions to the class for even more oral practice. This also helps with substitute preparation when you have an established routine.

You must have a Google™ account. A copy of the Google™ Sheet will be saved to your Google™ Drive. So, make sure you are signed into your Google™ account.

If you want to assign the Sheet to your Google™ Classroom:

1. Create an assignment.

2. Click “Add” and choose “Google Drive” option.

3. Search for the Google Sheet in your Google Drive.

4. Choose the option to “Make a copy for each student”. Students will get their own copy of the file with their name added to the document title.

5. Click to assign the activity to all students.

This Valentine’s Day basic ESL English resource is filled with printable low prep activities for February. This resource focuses on friendship and kindness and also includes many options for Valentine’s day. Students can write about friendship, take part in a “a week of kindness” or practice Valentine’s day vocabulary. Valentine’s cards, drawing and writing prompts and flashcards included too!
