If you are looking for the perfect way to end the school year with a rigorous yet engaging activity your students will be talking about for years to come, look no further than this Escape to Summer Vacation Escape Room for ELA!

There is no wonder why escape rooms are so popular; they are highly engaging and encourage people to work together and think creatively in order to solve different puzzles... all while trying to beat the clock! This meticulously-crafted resource features all of the materials you need to conduct a full-length Escape Room. Planning an escape room may seem like quite the daunting task, but this product provides everything from the basics and set-up instructions to signs and answer keys so that yours runs smoothly from start to finish. How does it work?

In order to graduate from your ELA class and escape to summer vacation, your students must escape your classroom by solving 5 different Language Arts skills-based puzzles, discovering a hidden message, and finding clues along the way.

  • Sizzlin' Summer Songs: In the second task, students must correctly identify the figurative language devices from fun summer songs. Shaded letters within the correct answers form the second code.
  • Lovely & Temperate: In the third task, students will perform a close reading of Shakespeare's Sonnet 18, Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer's Day. The letters of the multiple choice questions about the poem form the third code.
  • Summer Stats: In the fourth task, students will read 8 fun facts about summer that each contain a commonly misused or misspelled word. Students must identify the incorrect word and write it down in their answer booklet. Shaded letters within the correct answers form the second code.
  • Jig Saw Quote: In the fifth and final task, students must assemble a jig saw puzzle with a fun summer quote. (We can't give that away here!)

SPRING Speech Therapy Social Skills Mixed Group Game | Opinion Writing Activity

By My Speech Therapy Go-Tos

Get your students talking! This engaging SPRING Speech Therapy Social Skills Mixed Group Game | Opinion Writing Activity is the perfect spring social skills group or independent writing activity! Your students will love choosing the surprise questions each round and expressing opinions and interests with their peers. This spring social questions conversation game is perfect for a:

  • morning meeting activity
  • brain break activity
  • icebreaker activity
  • lunch bunch activity
  • spring themed activity
  • speech language therapy group activity
  • mixed group activity
  • opinion writing activity
  • 5 senses activity

This spring social skills group game is versatile and fun for everyone involved! The questions are based on a topic everyone of every skill level can relate to - the 5 senses! Your students will love talking about their favorite spring things! Students will answer opinion questions about their favorite sights, sounds, tastes, smells, and textures related to the spring season!

This SEL activity was designed to get your students talking and increase student engagement. Each question is a SURPRISE and the variety of questions is endless!

I am able to adapt this conversation starters SEL game to target a variety of goals based on my students' different speech and language goals. I have used it to target:

- Conversation Skills

- Inferencing & Perspective Taking - students can guess which choice their classmate will choose based on what they know about them. They can also practice answering why they believe their classmate made a specific choice.

- Choice Making

- Sentence Building/ Sentence Expansion

- Expressing Opinions

- Reasoning

- Conjunctions

- Asking Questions

- Answering Questions

- Agree and Disagree Respectfully

- Articulation - this mixed group game naturally elicits multiple trials with the following sounds/words/phrases (If you could only choose one, I would choose, because, see, smell, hear, listen, taste, feel, touch, etc.).

- Vocabulary / Concepts related to spring or the five senses

How do you play?

* Choose one of the 5 senses to focus on for each round and use the corresponding board and picture cards. Picture cards should be cut out and placed in a basket or some kind of container. Students will then choose two picture cards from the container (without peaking!) and place them on the designated boxes on the board to generate the If You Could Only Choose One question.

* Cards can be returned to the container when finished to allow for additional question combinations.

What does each product come with?

* Fun engaging questions that everyone can relate to! All five senses are covered in each product (see, smell, hear, taste, touch). Each of the five senses comes with a designated board and 12 picture cards. There is also a blank board and blank cards if you'd like to create/write your own.

* Each board comes with a sentence starter to assist students in sentence building / sentence expansion. There is also room to generate your own sentence from scratch on each board.

* In addition to sentence writing space on each of the five senses boards, if you have students at different writing levels, the product also comes with 3 different levels of writing prompts, plus a blank template for independent writing.

Thank you for your interest! Enjoy!

April Fool's Day Grammar Escape Room

By Language Arts Excellence

Looking to have a little fun with your students on April Fool's Day? Pretend you're giving them a test and fool them with this fun yet rigorous grammar-based escape room!

There is no wonder why escape rooms are so popular; they are highly engaging and encourage people to work together and think creatively in order to solve different puzzles... all while trying to beat the clock! This meticulously-crafted resource features all of the materials you need to conduct a full-length April Fool's-themed Escape Room. Planning an escape room may seem like quite the daunting task, but this product provides everything from the basics and set-up instructions to signs and answer keys so that yours runs smoothly from start to finish. The activity involves movement, energy, creative thinking and most of all, collaboration. All tasks are Language Arts skills-based so that with this fun lesson, learning is not sacrificed. Your students will be having so much fun that they won’t even realize the higher order thinking skills they are applying in the playing of this game!

How does it work?

Your students thought they had a grammar test today, instead, you fooled them with an escape room! They are stuck in your classroom until they solve 5 grammar-based tasks about April Fool's Day!

  • Don't Be a Crank, It's Just a Prank: In the first task, students will read 8 fun prank ideas (like the classic cream cheese on the toothbrush trick). In each passage, one word is underlined. Students must identify the part of speech of the underlined word by assembling a mat puzzle that, when assembled correctly, will reveal their first code.
  • Spaghetti Tree: In the second task, students will read about the epic "Spaghetti Tree" prank done by the British media. In each paragraph there is an incorrect homophone. Students must identify the homophones and write them correctly on their answer sheet. Shaded boxes within each answer will form their code.
  • April Foolin' Around the World: In the third task, students must match facts about April Fool's Day around the world to the type of sentence it is (declarative, interrogative, subjunctive, imperative, conditional) by drawing a line connecting the sentence with its type. Letters not intersected by these lines will form their third code.
  • Fool Me Once: In the fourth task, students will read 8 "fool" quotes. Each one is missing a comma. Students must insert the comma in the correct place, then write down the word before it. Shaded boxes within each answer reveal the fourth code.
  • Encrypted Message: In the final task, students must decode an encrypted message (a Shakespeare quote about the joy of April) from the codes they collected along the way.

Product Includes:

  • Escape Room Basics
  • Detailed Day-Of Instructions
  • Escape Room Print Checklist
  • Student Teams Chart
  • Materials for 5 Tasks: task signs, task instructions, and supplementary materials
  • Opportunities for Differentiation
  • Student Answer Sheet
  • Teacher Answer Keys
  • Escape Room Reflection for homework or in-class writing activity

This escape room is suitable for middle and high school students and is ideal for use at the beginning of April.

- Inferencing & Perspective Taking - students can guess which choice their classmate will choose based on what they know about them. They can also practice answering why they believe their classmate made a specific choice.

- Choice Making

- Sentence Building/ Sentence Expansion

- Expressing Opinions

- Reasoning

- Conjunctions

- Asking Questions

- Answering Questions

- Agree and Disagree Respectfully

- Articulation - this mixed group game naturally elicits multiple trials with the following sounds/words/phrases (If you could only choose one, I would choose, because, see, smell, hear, listen, taste, feel, touch, etc.).

- Vocabulary / Concepts related to the seasons, holidays, and five senses

How do you play?

* Choose one of the 5 senses to focus on for each round and use the corresponding board and picture cards. Picture cards should be cut out and placed in a basket or some kind of container. Students will then choose two picture cards from the container (without peaking!) and place them on the designated boxes on the board to generate the If You Could Only Choose One question.

* Cards can be returned to the container when finished to allow for additional question combinations.

What does each product come with?

* Fun engaging questions that everyone can relate to! All five senses are covered in each product (see, smell, hear, taste, touch). Each of the five senses comes with a designated board and picture cards.

Enjoy!
