How important is teaching globalization and economic interdependence?

Globalization and Interdependence describes the relationships of mutual dependence between all elements and life forms (including humans) within and across cultures, environments, and social systems. Today, more than ever before, globalization and interdependence are part of our everyday local lives. We are linked to others on every continent even if we don't realize it. We are linked through social media and telecommunications, the movement of people and ideas (culture), international trade, the environment as we share the planet, and through international political relations and regulations. The easiest way to teach interdependence no matter one's age is to address international trade. Help your students understand globalization and interdependence through this lesson Economic Interdependence and Globalization.

MATERIALS:

PREPARATION:
• Print out the Global Trade & Economic Interdependence card, cut, and laminate
• Roll the yard into a large ball to make it easy to toss.

This is a scavenger hunt using task cards that is based on the key figures that helped to abolish slavery and are studied in the 4th grade curriculum. Students will read about Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass, Samuel Cornish, William Lloyd Garrison, Sojourner Truth, John Brown, Abraham Lincoln, Susan B. Anthony and Harriet Beecher Stowe. This activity will have students reading about how each individual aided the abolition movement. Check out the preview to see what each task card entails. Students will need to walk around the room reading the task cards. Each task card has a code word on the bottom which is the answer to the question/fill in the blank. The answer will NOT be found on that same task card. For example, the answer to task card #1 is found by reading the passage on task card #8. Students MUST record which task card they found the answer on in their answer sheet under the “FOUND CARDS #” column. That column will be used at the end for the 4 digit lock code. They will follow the clues to find the correct 4 digit code.

This activity would be a great review before assessments, as a center activity, a group activity, etc. Students will be engaged with the learning while having a fun time trying to solve all of the clues!

Students will read about Christopher Columbus, Juan Ponce de León, Jacques Cartier, John Cabot, Henry Hudson, Giovanni da Verrazzano, Hernando de Soto, and Samuel de Champlain. This activity will have students reading about what country the explorer sailed for, what part of the Americas they explored and how their exploration affected later colonization or knowledge of the Americas. In this product, students will learn about the 19th Amendment, what it is, the timeline as to how the 19th Amendment was put into effect and just how long it took. Information about the process it took and how it was rejected by different parts of the government is shared ranging from 1878 to the November 1920 election, what the women's suffrage movement was, who was involved, and what they did, President Woodrow Wilson, Harry Burn, Senator Aaron A. Sargent, Ellen Clark Sargent, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony and the role that each of them had in the passing of the 19th Amendment, students will learn about Congress - the Senate and the House of Representatives, and will briefly learn about the 3 Branches of Government to help students understand which branch helped pass the 19th Amendment, students will briefly learn about who was involved in World War I and what happened at the end of World War I, why women became involved in World War I, what their roles were in World War I, what jobs women had during this time, and how this lead to the 19th Amendment. Students will also learn about how the 19th Amendment in 1869 was different from 1920 and why, how the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was important as well as the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, students will also learn about when women could vote in 15 states from 1869 - 1918, and the first states to ratify the 19 Amendment.

The notes are adapted to meet your student's individual learning needs. Throughout the product, after each page of notes is reviewed, students will answer short answer comprehension questions and multiple choice questions to review what was discussed on previous pages. At the end of the product, students are provided with a review that includes multiple choice questions and short answer questions.

Benchmark Resources Description SS.7.C.2.1 Define the term "citizen," and identify legal means of becoming a United States citizen. SS.7.C.2.2 Evaluate the obligations citizens have to obey laws, pay taxes, defend the nation, and serve on juries. Also Assesses: SS.7.C.2.3—Experience the responsibilities of citizens at the local, state, or federal levels. Also Assesses: SS.7.C.2.14—Conduct a service project to further the public good. This unit has interactive notebook pieces, assessments, and tons of paper based and technology based items. There are 21 items in this file that hits every part of the standards listed above. It includes a variety of lessons which meet multiple intelligences and different leveled learners. There is no extra work needed. Just pick and chose, print and go!

This is a great way to get your students excited about studying a historical or current figure. Students use research and inference skills to create a resume for a historical or current figure. The example given is Mao Zedong's Resume'. Students will create an objective as to what job the character is applying. The character's education, work experience, etc. will be included. This will enhance the student's comprehension of who the character is and/or was.

This lesson comes complete with a resume layout pdf form for a simple printout as a guide sheet as well as a fillable PDF that can be given to students to fill in at a computer. for easy modifications. a resume' activity sheet, example resume, and grading rubric.

This product was made for students to learn the following:

In this product, students will learn about the Missouri Compromise, Compromise of 1850, and North and South Notes and Review. Vocabulary covered: raw materials, free states and slave states as of 1820, trains, factories, Eli Whitney, cotton, and slaves. A vocabulary review is included as well as a fill in the blank vocabulary review that includes a key.

Students will learn about the Missouri Compromise, Compromise of 1850, and North and South Notes and Review. The United States government will be initially reviewed to review who Congress and the Senate is, but the House of Representatives and the three branches of government. The North and South are reviewed in this product that includes the years between 1820 - 1860.

The North: What was used at this time to run machines, who owned machines, how machines were powered, how and why cities started to develop, how raw materials and factories relate with one another, the use of the railroad brought factory products to people, working conditions in factories, and changes in cities that took place

The South: Cotton was growing on plantations and farms in the South, who worked on these plantations, how plantations grew and who worked on these farms, who invented the cotton gin, what the cotton gin did and how it was different from removing seeds by hand and how much time was saved, what cotton was known for in the South, who worked on plantations and how they were treated, and the kind of work slaves were required to do in the South.

The Missouri Compromise:

In 1820, how many states were free states and how many states were slave states. The argument that the North and South had with each other about wanting Missouri to be on their side and why, what people wanted in the North and what people wanted in the South after the Missouri Compromise, why the North and South were divided, which states became free states and slaves states between 1820-1850, the Compromise of 1850 and what it entailed, and when slavery ended.

The notes are adapted to meet your student's individual learning needs. Throughout the product, after each page of notes is reviewed, students will answer short answer comprehension questions. At the end of the product, students are provided with a review that includes multiple choice questions and short answer questions.

A FUN WAY TO INTRODUCE A STUDY 20TH CENTURY PEOPLE AND EVENTS!

Save yourself hours and hours of planning with this all-in-one, ready-to-use PowerPoint.

Students will love this PowerPoint! This lesson engages students with the incorporation of music, as students watch the Powerpoint.

Through this PowerPoint, students will become aware of people and events that played an integral part in shaping the 20th Century. It is encouraging that the teacher removes or mutes the free song included in the PowerPoint and plays Billy Joel's 1989 Hit: We Didn't Start The Fire, which depicts major events and people who influence the 20th Century written about in Joel's song.

NOTE: The song on the PowerPoint is a free song, but can be removed or muted in order to play Billy Joel's We Didn't Start the Fire, easily downloaded on iTunes or can be obtained using Pandora or Spotify. Legality reason will not allow one to sell a copyrighted song in their materials.

This lesson took 4+ hours to plan, design, and tweaked.

Although this lesson plan is written specifically for World History, character maps can be used at antime that you are studying a character or historical individual. This lesson plan is easy to modify for language arts, English, reading, social studies, science, and other content areas. It is easy to use and can be included in your lesson plans time and time again. Students may need some assistance in the beginning stages of the assignment, but once the students understand the concept behind character analysis they will love this activity. All students can be successful in this process. This lesson is specifically designed to explore and analyze Alexander the Great. I have used this teaching technique within my lesson because it is fun , keeps students interest, and they learn from it.
