**April 26th is National Pretzel Day!**Use this reading passage to show students that everything has a history, even pretzels! The resource includes a reading passage, a Did You Know? section of fun facts about pretzels. For example: Baldies are what saltless pretzels are called! There is also a short map skill activity to show students the location of where pretzels originated. There are comprehension questions and a teacher page with extension activities and links.The History of Pretzels!

This high-interest WebQuest will get students thinking about the impact of climate change on other people. There is an article explaining that humans have been migrating because of climate-related issues for years. Then they will dig deeper by reading articles and answering questions about the more recent impact climate change has had on human migration. There are links to two articles; one with excellent graphics, questions for students to answer, answer sheets, a mini-poster, and a tip and suggestions sheet for the teacher.

In less than 30 years, the numbers of giraffe have drastically decreased by almost 40 percent. That makes giraffe in more danger of extinction than the elephant. In 2014, the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, estimated that there are only about 80,000 giraffes in the wild. In 2019, nations of the world moved to classify giraffes as an endangered species. A committee at the World Wildlife Conference approved the protection with a vote of 106-21. The main cause for their dwindling population is destruction of their habitat, climate change and worsening drought and illegal trade of giraffe body parts. Additionally, civil unrest in the areas where giraffes roam are also causes for their declining numbers. Learn about the giraffe with this web quest!

Greenland is in the news with Donald Trump saying he wants to purchase the world's largest island from the country of Denmark. Learn about Greenland with this fun/informative webquest. There are 10 web questions, several fun facts and a couple of extension activities. Great for a Friday activity, a substitute day or just when you want to introduce students to geography areas of the world.
