This is a fun seasonal Christmas and Winter Holiday geography activity that students will find engaging and fun!
This is a great lesson for the week before Winter/Holiday Break. Students will take a Christmas journey around the world! If you need an activity for 1-2 days, this lesson is easy to modify to the time limitations you may have. Not only will they have fun, but they will be learning to work together to complete the tasks! Every moment is a teaching moment.
Please take time to review the video of the product.
This lesson takes students on a journey using Journey Cards to cities and towns around the world that have Christmas names. Students will work in teams and will use Google Earth Online to explore each location on the Journey Cards as well as practice plotting the absolute location of each location. Students will look at the location, the physical characteristics, and fun facts. Every moment is a teaching moment, even those days before the holiday break.
OBJECTIVES:
(1) The learner will plot the coordinates of towns with Christmas names on a coordinate plot map using latitude and longitude (Absolute Location).
(2) The learner will explore cities and towns around the world with Christmas and winter-themed names using Google Earth.
(3) The learner will identify the continent, hemisphere, physical features, and interesting physical or cultural facts related to each city or town.
(3) The learner will evaluate and compare the towns and cities' location, environment, and living conditions to determine where they would most and less likely live.

Geography: What Does The Christmas Pickle Have To Do With Christmas?

Looking for an exciting and intriguing way to introduce Christmas traditions around the world? This is a fun geography mini-lesson (60 minutes) that will get your students excited about learning and about the season itself. It will open their eyes to various cultures and religions around the world. Make every moment a teaching moment.
Includes an activity where students get to use digital scanners on their iPad or phones to explore the history behind the Christmas pickle. Alternative: If you don't have a digital classroom, you may choose to print off the article and duplicate it. However, students will need access to computers to complete the second group cooperative activity.
This fun lesson allows students to experience hunting for Christmas pickles and receive a present. This is a great way to distribute gifts to your students before the holiday season.

South Korea is in the News. This would be a great opportunity to introduce students to the county of South Korea. In 2018, South Korea, also hosted the Winter Olympics.There are 11 web questions, lots of Did You Know? facts, comprehension questions and a teacher page with 7 extension activities. There is also a key for both the web quest and comprehension questions and additional links for teachers. Studying China. This web quest would be a positive addition to a unit of study! Want to introduce your students to the country of China during Chinese New Year? This web quest gives students an overview to the country including map skill questions, learning about the panda bears, the Great Wall of China, The Terra Cotta Solders and lots more. Extension activities and links as well as the key are also included. The 12 page resource has 10 informational web questions.

From famous landmarks, to famous people, to contributions of the French to the world, this 14 question webquest gives a great introduction to the country. It is packed with lots of interesting facts! There are 10 Did You Know fun Facts, 5 comprehension questions and a Teacher page with extension activities and the key. Additionally there is a map skill activity. Did you know that the idea of “sealed with a kiss” comes from Romans who signed every contract with a kiss? Did you know that a good luck symbol to ancient Romans were snakes? South Korea:This would be a great opportunity to introduce students to the county of South Korea. In 2018, South Korea, also hosted the Winter Olympics.There are 11 web questions, lots of Did You Know? facts, comprehension questions and a teacher page with 7 extension activities. There is also a key for both the web quest and comprehension questions and additional links for teachers. Although the activity could be done in one class period, if you decide to do some of the extension activities, this resource could be used over several days. SOUTH KOREA
North Korea: Founded in 1948 by Kim II-Sung, North Korea is officially called the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. About the size of the state of Pennsylvania, it has been nicknamed the Hermit Kingdom because it is a country that few from the outside world have visited. With North Korea being in the news a lot lately, this might be a great opportunity to introduce students to the "Hermit Kingdom".
