I personally use these texts with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. 30 DIFFERENT AWARDS! This resource is a great way to end the year and to acknowledge each student for their unique abilities. The best part of being in a CI classroom is the community it builds. Choose the awards yourself or have the students vote using the Google Form for Student Voting. Each award has the French feminine and masculine forms. The awards can be applied to French class or simply observations about students in other areas of their lives. Let the students know that they have been seen for more than what is going on while they are in your room.

Engage and challenge your students when reviewing the French verb faire in the present tense with this set of 100 challenge review cards. Take a look at the preview to see ways that you can use these grammar challenge cards in your French classroom.

This is a set of 100 cards to have your students practice conjugating the verb faire while also reviewing many other beginner French grammar topics. These cards are only in French and are suitable for core French or immersion classes.

Use these cards to practice conjugating faire along with:

• faire expressions
• prepositions of location
• simple negation
• regular ER verbs
• le futur proche
• some avoir expressions

This resource includes two different sets of 50 practice cards (100 total) to help your students learn and master faire in the present tense.

SET 1 (see preview)

The first set presents sentences in which students fill in the blanks with present tense conjugations. Every card highlights certain words (articles, adjective agreement, etc.) in blue.

In addition to conjugating faire in the present tense, students should pay close attention to the highlighted words as they will need them in the set of CHALLENGE cards.

As I got into using these decodable reading passages in class, the students guided me to stretching out the resource even more to create a cute little packet for them to do a lot of the work on their own.

What's in the pack?

There are 4 original texts that explore complex sounds in French

How we use this in class:

My students now know that we read the passage first together as a group. We decode. We explore. We segment words. Blend them all so we are confident.

Next, we do activities with the sound blends themselves. Using a highlighter, students race to find all the target sound words in the text. I don’t know about you but my student LOVE highlighters! After that, students used the lined window to write all the target sound words so they’re sure they have them all. Then, we do a little exercise where we try to explain what happened in the story in as few words as possible.

The very last step is to draw a picture of what is happening in the text. Students can do most or all this activity pack on their own in the Grade One and Grade Two Immersion setting. It’s a great way to have them build confidence all while giving you the time to work with small groups at the back of your class!

Who can use this resource:

Teachers who are just getting accustomed to using strategies from the Science of Reading can use these simple texts to open up independent practice, small group evaluation, or up on a digital screen for whole group instruction and reading practice.

Make a set and send them home with students to build fluency in reading and confidence in reading strategies.

Texts are designed to build a number of common French sounds and get more challenging as they go on.

Correction sheet is handy for use with a substitute as they can confidently assess students and command the lesson even when they are not assured of their French skills.

What grade level:

I personally use these texts with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from K-3 will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the texts with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their French reading skills. These texts are aligned with sounds being taught in any Science of Reading aligned curriculum. They are set up for student success based on the research for increasing reading fluency and building student confidence in the classroom!

Once you have established the strategies for identifying sounds, initial sounds, and blending sounds, segmenting sounds, students will be able to use these self-driven passages on their own. What a great way to build learning autonomy!

50 French Simple Negation Speaking and Listening Cards

This resource includes 50 simple negation speaking cards that you can cut out and have students use in pairs or small groups. I recommend printing out and laminating these cards if possible so that you can use them over and over again. I've also included a PDF with only one card per page for projecting or using with tablets when you want to do a whole class activity or paired work without printing.

This resource is included in my French Negation Bundle.

On each card there is a question for student #1 to ask to student #2. The assumed answer is written on the card, but students should be reminded that sometimes more than one answer is possible.

Since there are so many cards included, this activity can last a while and give your students an opportunity to really practice a lot.

These are questions and answers to practice simple negation in the present, passé composé and futur proche tenses. Just pull out the ones you're not quite ready to use given your students' current level.
