Differentiating for student needs is easy. Students can brainstorm ideas via speech to text or typing directly onto a Google Slide or Google Doc. Simply push out the doc or slide out through Google Classroom and be sure to give each student their own digital copy. OR give students the printable document to handwrite their ideas. Use the Prompts and Differentiation Ideas Teacher guide to further support struggling writers by providing kids with a completed word bank, questions to answer, and story ideas.
In my own 5th-grade classroom, I like to have my students silently brainstorm ideas before they meet up with partners to build a story. Sometimes we use the photo and accompanying soundtrack as a quick-write while other times we work our way through the entire writing process. Often, I’ll use my interactive TV to record student ideas and capture a word bank directly on the slide before sending the class to their seats to further develop their ideas. Once, during an observation, the recess bell rang and not a single student noticed because they were so wrapped up in their writing. I'd call that a win!

De nos jours, il semble que les élèves connaissent de moins en moins les grands événements et moments historiques, qu'ils soient bons ou mauvais. Ce document est conçu pour permettre aux enseignants de donner à leurs élèves un aperçu de certains événements majeurs de l'Histoire que nous n'avons souvent pas le temps d'explorer en détail en classe, mais qui offrent au moins aux élèves une première introduction à ces moments marquants.
Ce document pédagogique propose une immersion dans 41 moments marquants de l’Histoire mondiale à travers des récits captivants. Chaque semaine, les élèves découvriront un personnage fictif placé au cœur d'un événement historique majeur, avec un focus sur le contexte temporel, géographique, les personnes impactées et les répercussions à long terme de cet événement.
Les élèves seront invités à rédiger des entrées de journal intime en adoptant la perspective de personnages historiques, tels qu'un jeune garçon dans un pensionnat autochtone, une infirmière sur le front de la guerre de Sécession, ou encore un membre d'une communauté des Premières Nations lors des négociations des traités avec le gouvernement canadien.
Objectifs pédagogiques :
- Comprendre les moments historiques clés qui ont façonné le monde et leurs répercussions durables.
- Encourager l’écriture créative et l’exploration des perspectives personnelles et historiques.

Writing a biography is a fun and interesting project for your students. This provides them with the opportunity to learn about someone that interests them and share it with their peers! This packet includes information to share with your students about what a biography is, why do we write a biography, and rules to follow when writing a biography. This packet also includes an example showing the process that is used to write a biography and the steps that are taken to add onto a biography to be sure it includes a beginning, middle and end. On the last few pages, it includes a template to help students come up with possible story ideas, add onto each paragraph they will include in their biography, and a reference sheet. Writing a research report can be a fun and interesting project for your students. This provides them with the opportunity to learn about a topic that interests them and share it with their peers! This packet includes information to share with your students about what a research report is, why do we write a research report, possible topics to write a research report on, what do we share in a research report, and rules to follow when writing a research report. A list of ideas as to where to look for information and tips about what you can find from these sources is also included in this product. This product includes an example of a weak and strong opening paragraph, a list of what makes a great research report, and a guided research report writing structure is also included. An example of three possible writing topics, a completed KWL chart, and a brainstorming chart that will serve as a guide when writing the rough draft of the research report is included in the student packet. An example of a rough draft on rain forests is also provided to help support students and serve as a guide to help them when writing their own rough draft. Templates are included after the example along with a rough draft template and reminder checklist so students remember to go back and check their work once it is completed.
