How/When To Use the Scenario Task Cards

It’s a great opportunity for them to practice managing their emotions when dealing with difficult situations. You can use the Task Cards with no questions to generate your OWN questions! You may also use these scenarios to practice other skills including conflict resolution, effective communication, negotiating a compromise, etc.
• Icebreaker: This can be a great way to start a meeting, training session, or team-building activity. It’s also a great way to get students to get to know each other and buy into the purpose of an upcoming activity or lesson.
• Play Writing Exercise: Students can work in groups to create skits or scenes then perform the skits for the class.
• Writing Response: Students can be given a scenario to read and then write their responses: How would you respond in this situation? How can you reframe negative thinking to positive thinking and maintain a positive mindset? Students can swap papers with a partner who then reads their responses and determines whether they agree/disagree with their responses/approaches to these real-life scenarios/situations.
• Discussion: Students can discuss the Scenario Task Cards in groups or whole class.

You can use this resource in a number of ways.

• Display each quote in the classroom as time allows and discuss one character trait quote at a time.
• Complete the quotes activities during class, with partners or groups, or send it home for homework.
• Choose your four favorite character quotes and create a Character Traits Quote of the Week activity.
• Display all the quotes and ask students to vote on the quotes they’d like to explore. Use the corresponding worksheets.

In most cases, students can complete the quotes worksheets without any additional resources. Periodically, the students will be asked to discuss the author of the quote (if it is applicable). In these cases, allow students to use reference materials (a computer, for example).

It involves observing a situation, then using clues with background knowledge to figure out what has happened or what is happening. The ability to make social inferences is an essential social skill. DESCRIPTION

▶️ This is an comprehensive Picture Inference Lesson PACKET that includes at least eight activities where students can practice the skill of social inferencing using pictures that are relevant to this day in age. There are a total of 10 pictures that students will use to make inferences. Students have multiple opportunities to observe a social situation and combine picture clues and their background knowledge to figure out what is happening. Students can make inferences about how the people in the pictures are feeling, what they are doing, what they may be thinking, and what situation they may be in.

▶️ This lesson plan will help students learn how to read, interpret, and think about social situations. ALL pictures are age appropriate as you will not hesitate to use any picture during the learning process. Making Inferences is a challenging skill to master, especially for lower-level students. This resource includes two sets of Picture Inference Task Cards (80 cards in total) that are differentiated to meet the needs of both lower-level and higher-level students. The pictures in these task cards are very relevant as students "see" these everyday images almost anywhere they go!

DESCRIPTION

▶️ The first set of 40 cards, which are the color RED, have pictures that students can use to make inferences. These RED Picture Inference Task Cards include guiding questions to help lower level students make inferences.

▶️ The second set of 40 cards, which are the color GREEN, have the SAME pictures that students can use to make inferences, but without the guiding questions. Instead, this set of Picture Inference Task Cards read: “What can you infer from this picture?” and “Why do you think that?” These questions require high-level students to think for themselves as they pay close attention to picture details.

▶️ Finally, this resource includes a Picture Inference Worksheet that students can use to record their inferences and evidence. Students can record inferences and evidence for two pictures.

1. Small Group Instruction - You can have students engage in small group instruction where you provide additional support on the skill of inferencing. You can have all students in small groups practice with the same Picture Inference Task Card number or you can distribute 1-2 task cards to each student to practice making inferences and citing evidence before reviewing.

2. Mini Lesson - You can load these Picture Inference Task Cards on the Smartboard and use them to demonstrate how to make an inference, while paying closing attention to details. They can also be used to discuss the importance of details and how they are used to encourage inferential thinking. You can even use these task cards to discuss the difference between relevant picture details and irrelevant details. Finally, you can use these inference task cards during the guided practice portion of your lesson.

3. Exit Slips - You can use these Picture Inference Task Cards as Exit Slips by distributing 1-2 task cards to each student to complete and hand in to you before they leave.

4. Partner Study - You can have students pair up and “test/question each other.” Partners not only ask each other to make valid inferences and support it with relevant picture details, but to be open to a variety of valid inferences that can be made from the same picture.

This activity can ultimately improve confidence, communication, and assertiveness skills.

• Play Writing Exercise: Students can work in groups to create skits or scenes then perform the skit for the class.
• Writing Response: Students can be given a task scenario to read and then write their responses. Students can switch papers with a partner who then reads their responses and determines whether they agree/disagree with their responses/approaches to these real-life scenarios.

This reading passage examines the short story of a teen boy who desires to be TikTok famous. Through this text, students will assess the sacrifices the teen makes in pursuit of popularity while also investigating the influence TikTok has on the teen's perception of self.

This reading passage examines the short story of a boy attempting to unearth whether or not his girlfriend is cheating on him. Through the creation of a fake TikTok account, the boy tests his girlfriend’s loyalty. Students will evaluate the morality of his actions by analyzing the boy’s emotions and the outcome of the situation.

❤️ "Cameras and Mirrors"

This reading passage examines the short story of an insecure teenager as she films a TikTok video with her friend. Students will explore the importance of consent by analyzing the effects on the narrator when the video is posted without her permission.

This reading passage examines the short story of the formation and spread of a piece of gossip. It follows many characters and their role in propagating the gossip, as well as exploring the ways the gossip affects them. Peer pressure is real and all too common! Teens constantly experience all kinds of peer pressure both in and out of school. Peer pressure can ultimately affect teens' decision-making. It's often hard to navigate difficult situations and say "no," especially when there is a strong human need to fit in and feel important.

This resource focuses on negative peer pressure, providing opportunities for teachers, educators, counselors, and parents to help students:

★ make better decisions when it comes to awkward or difficult situations

★ say "no" when they have to

★ think before they act

★ consider possible consequences of their decisions

Additionally, the scenarios in the activities allow opportunities for you to teach your students exit strategies or ways to say "no" to negative pressures.

Together, you can think through strategies on how to deal with those situations and scenarios if they arise. This can be done by discussing the scenarios and even role-playing. This reading passage examines the short story of the formation and spread of a piece of gossip. It follows many characters and their role in propagating the gossip, as well as exploring the ways the gossip affects them. This reading passage examines the short story of a girl pressured to participate in the latest TikTok trend. The text explores the important role TikTok plays in teen life and the realities of spending too much time on TikTok. This reading passage examines the short story of a teenager posting a photo to Instagram. The text provides an insight into her inner monologue and emotional state as the pressure to get likes and comments mounts. Students will examine the authenticity of social media posts and the importance of social media in teen life.

This reading passage examines the short story of a teen boy who desires to be TikTok famous. Through this text, students will assess the sacrifices the teen makes in pursuit of popularity while also investigating the influence TikTok has on the teen's perception of self.

❤️ "An Alter Ego"

This reading passage examines the short story of a boy attempting to unearth whether or not his girlfriend is cheating on him. Through the creation of a fake TikTok account, the boy tests his girlfriend’s loyalty. Students will evaluate the morality of his actions by analyzing the boy’s emotions and the outcome of the situation.

This reading passage examines the short story of an insecure teenager as she films a TikTok video with her friend. Students will explore the importance of consent by analyzing the effects on the narrator when the video is posted without her permission.
