Middle School Biology Webquests

In less than 30 years, the numbers of giraffe have drastically decreased by almost 40 percent. That makes giraffe in more danger of extinction than the elephant. In 2014, the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, estimated that there are only about 80,000 giraffes in the wild. In 2019, nations of the world moved to classify giraffes as an endangered species. A committee at the World Wildlife Conference approved the protection with a vote of 106-21. The main cause for their dwindling population is destruction of their habitat, climate change and worsening drought and illegal trade of giraffe body parts. Additionally, civil unrest in the areas where giraffes roam are also causes for their declining numbers. Learn about the giraffe with this web quest!

4. Learn about the elephant:

Did you know that elephants can be right or left tusked, kind of like humans are with their hands? Did you know that the elephant has the largest brain of any LAND mammal?(The sperm whale has the largest brain of all...) And if you think elephants like peanuts...they really do not! Learn about microorganisms including bacteria, fungi, protists and virus with this informative web quest. Students will also learn about famous people who work with microbes, including Louis Pasteur, Alexander Fleming, Joseph Lister, Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek and Edward Jenner. Students will also learn about helpful and harmful microbes. The web quest also mentions the coronavirus, has a Did You Know? section, comprehension questions and a Teacher Page with extension activities and links. There are 12 webquestions in the resource.

In less than 30 years, the numbers of giraffe have drastically decreased by almost 40 percent. That makes giraffe in more danger of extinction than the elephant. In 2014, the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, estimated that there are only about 80,000 giraffes in the wild. In 2019, nations of the world moved to classify giraffes as an endangered species. A committee at the World Wildlife Conference approved the protection with a vote of 106-21. The main cause for their dwindling population is destruction of their habitat, climate change and worsening drought and illegal trade of giraffe body parts. Additionally, civil unrest in the areas where giraffes roam are also causes for their declining numbers. Learn about the giraffe with this web quest!

Did you know that elephants can be right or left tusked, kind of like humans are with their hands? Students will also learn about famous people who work with microbes, including Louis Pasteur, Alexander Fleming, Joseph Lister, Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek and Edward Jenner.
