Here's a quick glimpse into each of the four sections featured in the slideshow:

• Part I. The Artist as a Young Man: This section features photographs of Fitzgerald from his childhood in Minnesota, his college years at Princeton, his military training at Camp Sheridan, and his romantic courtship of Zelda Sayre in Montgomery, Alabama. Your students will be fascinated by the parallels between Fitzgerald's life and Jay Gatsby's upbringing, military training, and romantic life. After all, it is only because Gatsby is wearing his military uniform — which erases the signs of his class status — that he can get close to Daisy Faye! (13 slides)

• Part II. New York in the Artistic Imagination: This section features photographs and paintings of the rapidly changing skyline of New York in the 1920s. Photographs by Alfred Stiegliz reveal how 5-story brownstones were replaced by 50-story skyscrapers. Paintings by Georgia O'Keefe and Howard Thain reveal how the invention of electric lights imbued the cityscape with color and romantic allure. (7 slides)

• Part III. The Characters as Readers: This section will not only prepare students to catch the literary allusions in The Great Gatsby but will get students thinking about what the books that various characters are reading might reveal about their personalities. What does his interest in Horatio Alger's rags-to-riches novels reveal about the character of Jay Gatsby? What does his interest in Lothrop Stoddard's The Rising Tide of Color reveal about the racist and xenophobic views of Tom Buchanan? (7 slides)

• Part IV. Drafting The Great Gatsby: This section features photographs of the mansions and parties that Scott and Zelda attended on Long Island in 1923. It also features Fitzgerald's handwritten drafts of the first and last pages of his novel, a list of the six titles that Fitzgerald rejected (plus the title he actually preferred but requested after the book had gone to print), and the painting by Fancis Cugat that Fitzgerald selected for the cover of The Great Gatsby. Use this play to introduce students to the life of English Scientist, Sir Isaac Newton. Great, too, for a review activity if you are doing a unit of study on gravity, motion or prisms.

Part of my Ms. Bie Ografee Talk Show Series of plays, Sir Isaac Newton is a guest on Ms. Bie Ografee's Talk Show. Newton shares information about his life and contributions he made in science with her studio audience who ask questions which he answers.

I always include questions about a "guest's" childhood and schooling. I feel it is important to see all famous people were kids,too, with many of the same issues that students today may be confronting. I also like kids to see that our past shapes our future! There is a Did You Know? section of fun facts, reading comprehension questions and a teacher section with lots of extension activities, links and the key.

American Revolution/ Revolutionary War: Studying the 13 Colonies/Colonial Times? This resource would work great for such a unit of study. Part of my Ms. Bie Ografee's Reader's Theater Scripts, I really had fun developing this play about the Culper Spy Ring and specifically, Agent 355, one of the female member of the organization!

During the Revolutionary War, the Culper Spy Ring was organized to work to defeat the British. Agent 355 and other members of the spy organization were very important in the colonists being victorious in the War for Independence from England. Although Agent 355's real name remains a mystery, she was one of the women spies who showed that patriotism has no gender! Secret codes, invisible ink, LAUNDRY used to communicate messages, what spies did during the Revolutionary war, lots of information is weaved into Agent 355 being a guest on Ms. Bie Ografee's Talk Show with the studio audience asking her questions.

Great for study on the Revolutionary War, during Women's History Month or any time you are looking for a fun/informative play to use with your students!

Lots of extension activities, links, a Did You Know Fact section, comprehension questions and the key are also included.

George Washington asked for the spy ring to be organized and interestingly, it's secret group was only discovered in the 1930s, about 140 years after the American Revolutionary War by historians reviewing some of George Washington's private papers.

This additional resource would go great with this play:

During the American Revolution, Tories supported the British in the war. Loyalists, the King’s Friends and Royalists were other names for those that took sides with the British. Students will learn about what it was like to be a Tory during the American Revolutionary War. Joshua Crabtree(fictitious character) is a guest on Ms. Bie Ografee's Talk Show. The format of the Reader's Theater Script is that a studio audience asks questions of Ms. Bie Ografee's guest to learn what it was like to support the British and not the Patriots during the American Revolution.

Use this informative Reader's Theater Script to learn about the Black Death, a disease that killed almost 1/2 the population of Europe in its worst outbreak(1347-1351). The fun/informative play uses the format of Simon, a victim of the Black Death, being a guest on Ms. Bie Ografee's talk show and the studio audience asks questions about his experiences during the time(the medical beliefs, the causes, the effects the Black Death had on Europe, etc.

Great for a unit of study on the Middle Ages! Could be used in a science unit on bacteria and contagious diseases. Comprehension questions/extension activities, key.

Nicknamed “the Moses of Her Sex”, Susan B. Anthony was a civil rights leader involved with the antislavery movement and the women’s rights and suffrage movement. She caused quite a commotion when, in 1872, she tried to do something most unusual for a woman. She attempted to vote in a presidential election.

Part of my Ms. Bie Ografee's Reader's Theater Scripts, I really had fun developing this play about the Culper Spy Ring and specifically, Agent 355, one of the female member of the organization!

During the Revolutionary War, the Culper Spy Ring was organized to work to defeat the British. Agent 355 and other members of the spy organization were very important in the colonists being victorious in the War for Independence from England. Although Agent 355's real name remains a mystery, she was one of the women spies who showed that patriotism has no gender! Secret codes, invisible ink, LAUNDRY used to communicate messages, what spies did during the Revolutionary war, lots of information is weaved into Agent 355 being a guest on Ms. Bie Ografee's Talk Show with the studio audience asking her questions.

During the Revolutionary War, Tories supported the British in the war. Loyalists, the King’s Friends and Royalists were other names for those that took sides with the British. Students will learn about what it was like to be a Tory during the American Revolutionary War. Joshua Crabtree(fictitious character) is a guest on Ms. Bie Ografee's Talk Show. The format of the Reader's Theater Script is that a studio audience asks questions of Ms. Bie Ografee's guest to learn what it was like to support the British and not the Patriots during the American Revolution.

Madison who would become the 4th President of the United States(1809-1817)), played a very important role in the forming of our US Constitution. In addition to being a delegate, he introduced the first additions to the Constitution(amendments) which came to be known as the Bill of Rights. Part of my Ms. Bie Ografee Talk Show Series: Students learn about George Washington Carver ,the Wizard of Tuskegee, with this informative Reader's Theater Script. As a guest on Ms. Bie Ografee's Talk Show, Carver answers questions from the studio audience about his life. Carver found more than 300 uses for the peanut. He also found about 118 products that could be made from the sweet potato. For his many discoveries, Carver is also called the “Black Leonardo”(after Leonardo da Vinci). He was an early believer in recycling and believed in the importance of respecting nature.

The play has 11 audience questioners, a Did You Know? fact section, comprehension questions, a teacher page with links, key and several extension activities.

Check out this fun/informative Reader's Theater Script on First Lady Edith Wilson. When her husband became ill, some say Edith did many of the responsibilities of the Presidency. Called the Acting First Man, Secret President and Presidentress of the United States, learn about this first lady with this Reader's Theaters Script. The play uses the format of To Tell the Truth, a popular television show which has returned with host Anthony Anderson(of Blackish). Three guests all claim to be the real guest being interviewed by a panel. The real guest must tell the truth where the other impostors do not have to do so. Kids must be "truth detectives" to determine just who is the REAL Edith Wilson.

Holding banners for hours caused arms to ache.The woman got the nickname “Silent Sentinels”.

He was about nine years old. Interestingly, several in his family also had unusual names. He had a sister named Patience, another named Fear and a brother named...Wrestling! Learn lots of interesting information about the Pilgrims and the Thanksgiving feast, of 1623, with this fun format.

Using the format where Love Brewster is a guest on Ms. Bi Ograffee's Talk Show, the studio audience asks Love questions about the voyage on the Mayflower, the first winter and the first Thanksgiving at Plymouth.
