Similes can be tricky for English language learners or students with language learning difficulties to understand and they often need to be specifically introduced to them. In this online, self-checking, activity hosted at Boom Learning℠, students will see 3 similes and 6 sentences on each card. Their job is to choose the sentences that go best with each simile and drag and drop to match. They must get all 3 right on the card to get the card correct, so this deck is harder than Set 1 that only has one simile per card.

Each round is only 5 cards as that's 15 questions. They will need to play multiple times to see all the similes. Some similes will appear more than once in different sentences to reinforce their meaning.

Illustrated with photos, rather than clipart, this deck is suitable for all ages of English language learners as it does not look childish.

For first time BOOM Card™ users, the resource comes with an explanation of how to assign the cards to your class, and has lots of useful links to support you using the activity.

In Task 1 students will read an informational text about the outbreak of the war and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will complete a crossword puzzle by answering ten questions. Answering these questions correctly will reveal some hidden letters which need to be unscrambled to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will sort 27 timeline task cards about World War II, putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their third word will be revealed.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word. All of the BOOM Cards™ activities are self-marking.

Idioms can be tricky for English language learners or students with language learning difficulties to understand and they often need to be specifically introduced to them. This online, self-checking, activity hosted at Boom Learning℠, shows students 10 different idioms on 20 different cards, so they see each idiom twice.

The first 10 illustrated cards ask student to identify the literal meaning of the idiom in a sentence from 3 possible choices. The second set of 10 cards asks student to pick the idiom that best goes with the sentences, again from 3 possible choices.

Idioms included in this deck are: all in the same boat, like a fish out of water, break a leg, all bark and no bite, bite off more than you can chew, on top of the world, throw in the towel, let the cat out of the bag, kill two birds with one stone, pie in the sky.

A BOOM Cards™ Escape Room Activity about the attack on Pearl Harbor that brought the United States into World War 2. The self-marking, NO PREP activity is ideal for distance learning and perfect for students in fifth grade or sixth grade.

For first time BOOM Card™ users, the resource comes with an explanation of how to assign the cards to your class, and has lots of useful links to support you using the activity.

In Task 1 students will read an informational text about Pearl Harbor and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will complete a crossword puzzle by answering ten questions. Answering these questions correctly will reveal some hidden letters which need to be unscrambled to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will sort 27 timeline task cards about the 1900s, putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their third word will be revealed.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word. All of the BOOM Cards™ activities are self-marking.

With this game, learners have less than 15 seconds to race against the clock to identify the part of speech represented by the highlighted word. Here's the twist: The possible responses start disappearing after time. Incorrect answers lose points and correct answers earn points.
