Do you need a current event activity to help students explore the modern history between Russia and Ukraine? Then download this Russia and Ukraine Research Project WebQuest! This no prep activity leads students on an exploration of the modern history between Russia and Ukraine. Topics covered include country information, biographical information on the Presidents, NATO, the Maidan Revolution, the annexation of Crimea, events in the Donbas region, and the invasion of Ukraine by Russia on February 24, 2022.

This WebQuest does not intend to provide an in-depth quest into the historical relationship between Russia and Ukraine. Rather, it intends to provide basic background information to help students better understand the current situation.

Using Primary Sources in the Classroom. A DBQ activity uses primary sources. Sources can include diaries,posters, music, news articles from the time, anything written by those who participated in or witnessed an event in history. Students review the given documents and use many cognitive skills in processing what they see and read. After gathering information using the documents, students develop an essay answering a question, in this case, “Describe Life on the Home Front During World War 2”, citing several of the documents reviewed.

A teacher page includes the Key and suggestions for a rubric to grade this Primary Source( DBQ activity).

If a teacher wishes to use the activity as a web quest, suggestions are also given.

Also of Possible Interest:

During WW2, it was very unusual for a woman to be a pilot. When there was a shortage of male pilots due to their being needed in combat, an experimental project was begun where female pilots would be used by the military(although they weren't part of the military) to assist with ferrying aircrafts from the manufacturers to military bases. Female pilots, WomenAir Force Service Pilots,(WASP) also would test repaired planes to see if they were SAFE for male pilots to fly. They also were asked to help train soldiers by towing targets behind their airplane for the soldiers to shoot at(with REAL ammunition). Out of the 1074 WASP, 38 would die(11 in training missions). After the war, these heroic women were basically forgotten. In fact, what they did was classified. They could not call themselves "veterans", nor did they qualify for any military benefits. This wouldn't change until 1977. This play covers what it was like for a female member of the WASP and how their contributions were ignored but eventually honored for all that they did during World War 2.
Great for Women's History Month, study on World War 2 or for a substitute or day before a holiday when you wish to introduce kids to some areas of history in our country.

This Reader's Theater Script using a compilation of women to create Mildred Wallingford, a member of the WASP. Real members are also mentioned throughout the reading.

Did you know that the idea of “sealed with a kiss” comes from Romans who signed every contract with a kiss? Did you know that a good luck symbol to ancient Romans were snakes? In 2018, South Korea, also hosted the Winter Olympics.There are 11 web questions, lots of Did You Know? facts, comprehension questions and a teacher page with 7 extension activities. Although the activity could be done in one class period, if you decide to do some of the extension activities, this resource could be used over several days. SOUTH KOREA

North Korea: Founded in 1948 by Kim II-Sung, North Korea is officially called the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. About the size of the state of Pennsylvania, it has been nicknamed the Hermit Kingdom because it is a country that few from the outside world have visited. With North Korea being in the news a lot lately, this might be a great opportunity to introduce students to the "Hermit Kingdom". Studying the Ancient Romans? Looking for a Friday Activity to introduce students to countries of the world? Part of my Country in Focus Series, this web quest covers the country of Italy and the ancient Romans. Students will learn about the contributions of the people from Italy, famous people, places to visit and more. There are 11 web questions, a map skill activity on Italy, a Did You Know? fun fact section, comprehension questions and a Teacher Page with Looking for an internet activity that includes 10 extension activities, additional links and the keys.

Want a fun activity to review vocabulary terms for a unit on ancient ancient Rome? Looking for an enrichment activity in history? Try my Ancient Roman Puzzler:Secret Message Review Activity. The activity involves students working individually or in groups to review vocabulary terms for a unit on ancient Rome. Then,a following direction activity is next where students place letters from the different terms into boxes found at the end of the activity page. Once all the boxes are filled, a "secret message" about the ancient Romans is revealed! The teacher page includes additional information to share about the "secret message". A great way to review vocabulary terms! If you prefer to offer a vocabulary box, I have included this as well.

Did you know that the idea of “sealed with a kiss” comes from Romans who signed every contract with a kiss? Did you know that a good luck symbol to ancient Romans were snakes? Or, that the being pale was a sign of wealth to ancient Romans because it showed you didn't need to work outside(some women actually applied white chalk to their faces to get the look of being pale). I taught a unit on the ancient Romans to my 6th graders and thought you might find my notes, activities and resources of interest. South Korea:This would be a great opportunity to introduce students to the county of South Korea. In 2018, South Korea, also hosted the Winter Olympics.There are 11 web questions, lots of Did You Know? facts, comprehension questions and a teacher page with 7 extension activities. There is also a key for both the web quest and comprehension questions and additional links for teachers. Although the activity could be done in one class period, if you decide to do some of the extension activities, this resource could be used over several days. SOUTH KOREA

North Korea: Founded in 1948 by Kim II-Sung, North Korea is officially called the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. About the size of the state of Pennsylvania, it has been nicknamed the Hermit Kingdom because it is a country that few from the outside world have visited. With North Korea being in the news a lot lately, this might be a great opportunity to introduce students to the "Hermit Kingdom". In 2018, President Trump plans to have a meeting with the leader of North Korea. NORTH KOREA

Guam: This resource would be a very good opportunity to introduce students to the Pacific island of Guam, a U.S. Territory.

China:This web quest would be a positive addition to a unit of study! Want to introduce your students to the country of China during Chinese New Year? Russia: The country of Russia has been in the news a lot recently. This would be a great opportunity to introduce students to the country of Russia with this web quest!
