Want a fun activity to review vocabulary terms for a unit on India? Looking for an enrichment activity for social studies? Try my India Puzzler: Secret Message Review Activity. The activity involves students working individually or in groups to review vocabulary terms on the topic of India. It can also be used as a homework worksheet.An important component of the activity is a following direction activity. Students place letters from the different terms into boxes found at the end of the activity page. Once all the boxes are filled, a "secret message" about the country of India is revealed(provided they followed directions properly!) The teacher page includes additional information to share about the "secret message". It's a fun way to reinforce important vocabulary or as an activity to foster following direction skills using social studies as the content area. If you prefer to offer a vocabulary box, I have included this as well...

Did you know that the idea of “sealed with a kiss” comes from Romans who signed every contract with a kiss? Did you know that a good luck symbol to ancient Romans were snakes? Or, that the being pale was a sign of wealth to ancient Romans because it showed you didn't need to work outside(some women actually applied white chalk to their faces to get the look of being pale). I taught a unit on the ancient Romans to my 6th graders and thought you might find my notes, activities and resources of interest. In fact, the earliest drawing of a snowman was found in a book dating back to 1380! The book, “Book of Hours” was found in a library in the country of the Netherlands. Did you know that the idea of “sealed with a kiss” comes from Romans who signed every contract with a kiss? Did you know that a good luck symbol to ancient Romans were snakes? Or, that the being pale was a sign of wealth to ancient Romans because it showed you didn't need to work outside(some women actually applied white chalk to their faces to get the look of being pale). In 2018, South Korea, also hosted the Winter Olympics.There are 11 web questions, lots of Did You Know? facts, comprehension questions and a teacher page with 7 extension activities. Although the activity could be done in one class period, if you decide to do some of the extension activities, this resource could be used over several days. SOUTH KOREA

North Korea: Founded in 1948 by Kim II-Sung, North Korea is officially called the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. About the size of the state of Pennsylvania, it has been nicknamed the Hermit Kingdom because it is a country that few from the outside world have visited. With North Korea being in the news a lot lately, this might be a great opportunity to introduce students to the "Hermit Kingdom". In 2018, President Trump plans to have a meeting with the leader of North Korea. NORTH KOREA

Guam: This resource would be a very good opportunity to introduce students to the Pacific island of Guam, a U.S. Territory.
