AP Spanish Retos ambientales 2 Articles with Comprehension Activities

By Specialty Spanish

Practice AP Spanish® reading comprehension with these 2 articles to learn about the dying corals of the Great Barrier Reef and the growing problem of Electronic Garbage. They can be assigned digitally for distance learners and printed for in-person students.

The articles are written from the perspective of a Mexican and a Colombian and therefore make great sources for cultural comparisons and discussions about perspectives in different places in the Spanish-speaking world.

Both articles are accompanied by comprehension questions and the Corals article also has a GoFormative version which is auto-graded- a great time saver for teachers! Another benefit to Goformative is that questions can be inserted exactly where you would like them to be to make reading comprehension a little easier for students. • Water Pollution: Sources, Consequences, and Conservation Efforts
This passage examines sources of water pollution, including industrial waste and agricultural runoff, and discusses health risks, ecosystem impacts, and conservation measures to prevent contamination.
  • Land Pollution Explained: Causes and Environmental Impact
Students will learn about the causes of land pollution, such as waste disposal and deforestation, and its consequences on soil health, biodiversity, and environmental sustainability.
  • How Pollution Affects Human Health and Ecosystems
This article highlights the direct effects of pollution on human health—like respiratory issues and birth defects—and its detrimental impacts on ecosystems and biodiversity.
  • Understanding Industrial Pollution: Air, Water, and Land Impacts
Focusing on industrial pollution, this reading covers how various industrial processes pollute air, water, and soil, with emphasis on environmental harm and the need for regulation.
  • Pollution Control Measures: How We Can Protect Our Environment
This text reviews methods for pollution control, including waste management and air quality standards, showing how sustainable practices can reduce pollution and protect public health.
  • Vehicle Emissions and Air Quality: An Environmental Overview
This article explores the harmful pollutants from vehicle emissions, their effects on urban air quality and human health, and the role of regulations like emissions testing in reducing pollution.
  • Agricultural Runoff: A Key Contributor to Water Pollution
Students learn about agricultural runoff, how it introduces pollutants like pesticides and fertilizers into water bodies, and sustainable practices that reduce this type of pollution.
  • Waste Disposal and Its Role in Land and Water Pollution
This reading discusses the environmental consequences of improper waste disposal, from land pollution in landfills to water contamination, and explores effective waste management practices.
  • From Policy to Practice: How Governments Fight Pollution
An overview of how governments address pollution through policies such as air quality regulations, waste management laws, and conservation initiatives to protect land, water, and air.

What’s Included in Each Reading:

  1. Detailed Reading Passages on air pollution, water pollution, land pollution, industrial pollution, vehicle emissions, agricultural runoff, waste disposal, and government policies. Each worksheet covers the background, impacts, and strategies for managing pollution.
  2. Case Studies and Real-World Examples like the Flint Water Crisis and the Great Pacific Garbage Patch to illustrate the urgent nature of these environmental challenges.
  3. Engaging Comprehension Questions for each reading, including multiple-choice, matching, fill-in-the-blank, and short-answer questions, designed to reinforce understanding and encourage in-depth analysis.
