It can be used for free voluntary reading, guided class reading, or a French sub plan - making it an incredibly versatile resource for in the classroom or at home.

Each story includes:

• a 2-4 page story with limited vocabulary and grammar
• comprehension questions to accompany the story
• additional infographics and activities related to the topic of the story

The stories address a variety of situations, including cultural information.

A brief summary of each story:

Joe & the Talking Sandwich: Joe is a student who brings his lunch to school.  Usually this isn’t a problem.  But today - his sandwich is talking to him!  It gets him in trouble with his teachers and the bus driver.  But worst of all, it begs Joe not to eat him at lunch time.

Frankie the Vampire: Frankie is a vampire - a very bad vampire.  He is afraid of the dark!  This makes it very difficult for him to do the most basic vampire things, especially finding dinner.  He needs help, and he finds it from a local psychic.

La Bise: Bryan is an American who is visiting France. He doesn't want to be rude, so he's prepared himself for the French custom of La Bise. But unfortunately, he didn't listen to the entire explanation in French class! Bryan's trip starts out fine but his cultural misunderstandings get him into more and more trouble.

La Baguette Magique: Each day, the local baker sells one special bread - the "baguette magique." And each day, the recipient sees something special happen in his or her life. Joseph wants to learn the secret of the bread, but the baker tells him it will take time.

La Belle Soeur: Lucie and Annie are sisters. Annie is very jealous - she will get her revenge on her popular sister in a devious plan that involves mud, bacon and blue dye.

Canadaman: Josh is a typical boy, until he goes on a camping trip and everything changes. He starts being polite, he develops weird food preferences, and suddenly develops mad hockey skills. What is happening to him, and how will he use these new powers for good instead of evil?

Having short stories available can also save time in the event of emergency absences where you need to provide substitute material. As students prepare to obtain jobs during the summer or after high school, they need to understand that they will deal with customers of all kinds and must prepare for it. Dealing with angry or difficult customers is part of the job. When interacting with customers, it is essential to have excellent customer service skills. The more skills they master and the more strategies they have to effectively communicate with customers and diffuse potential conflicts, the better prepared they’ll be for future employment.

Customer service scenarios are difficult situations that could include upset, angry, and disappointed customers that students are likely to encounter in the workplace. Students may encounter these typical situations while working, or even be quizzed on how they would handle them while interviewing for a job! Learning about possible customer service scenarios is a great way to prepare students for any future customer issues. These customer service scenarios give students a hands-on approach to experiencing and practicing “real-life” examples of good and poor customer service while honing their customer service and conflict management skills. It is important to prepare your students (or any “employee-to-be”) for as many different situations as possible.

These scenarios offers opportunities for you to:

► bridge knowledge gaps and/or point students in the right direction based on their responses to the scenarios.

► test your students’ knowledge about the qualities required for exceptional customer service in any workplace.

► have students practice how to effectively resolve conflicts and diffuse difficult customer situations.

One student can act as the customer and the other can act as the employee handling the situation. Teacher and student observers can provide feedback and other possible scenario solutions. ✸ After reading scenarios, you can hold a class discussion about the variety of strategies students can use to deal with difficult customers and deliver great customer service. Additionally, the scenarios can be used to discuss appropriate vs. inappropriate responses, actions, behaviors, and attitudes when handling customers in these situations.

✸ Student observers can identify effective customer service strategies being used in the role plays as well as offer constructive criticism about how students performed in their roles as customer service agents. They can offer other possible scenario solutions.

✸ One student role-plays as a customer and the other as a service representative. They can act out how each side might handle the given scenario, and once the issue is resolved, they switch roles. This will help them understand each side of the situation.
