Most students have cell phones and communicate with family, friends, and classmates through text messaging. Just about ALL students are familiar with text messaging. Why not teach and practice Fixed vs. Growth Mindset in such a way that appeals to their interests?! No student will be able to resist these activities - for real!
*******************************
There are 10 different text message conversations that come in two different variations (totaling 20 Worksheets) - ANSWER KEYS INCLUDED.
✅ Worksheet #1: Contains a text message conversation between two people in which students determine 1) whether the main person shows a Growth Mindset or a Fixed Mindset and 2) One of the two questions: What advice would you give the person in this situation? or What would you do if you were in the same situation as X?
✅ Worksheet #2: A plain worksheet that only includes the text message conversation without the questions. You can generate your own question. This worksheet contains a question box in which students can write the question you generate / or copy a question from the board.
*******************************
► This resource is absolutely AMAZING for even struggling readers and lower level students who have a short attention span and/or are unable to keep their focus reading other longer texts.
► The text message conversations and topics are age appropriate, HIGHLY relevant, familiar, and FUN! Students will easily identify with some of the "people" engaging in these text conversations. It would be interesting to see what students can infer and how they will respond to such conversations. Additionally, you can extend these conversations by having students read them aloud so they can "hear" what a growth mindset and a fixed mindset sounds like.
► The graphics in the "visually appealing" worksheets clearly resemble cell phones that students use today. They even include real text bubbles and emojis!
► You can use these Growth vs. Fixed Mindset Text Message Conversation Worksheets as part of a larger lesson, during a Mini Lesson, Guided Practice, Independent Work, as a Pair or Groupwork activity, small groups, and even for homework or practice!
► DETAILED ANSWER KEYS included (to help facilitate discussions)!

How/When To Use the Scenario Task Cards
✅ Role-Playing: Students can collaborate in pairs or groups to act out a variety of scenarios and demonstrate the difference between "real" and "fake" friends responses. Role-playing activities can also be used to demonstrate how to appropriately handle or navigate difficult situations related to friends/friendships. Students will be exposed to a variety of ways they can handle or respond to "fake" friends in certain situations. This activity can ultimately improve confidence, communication, and assertiveness skills.
✅ Icebreaker: This can be a great way to start a meeting, training session, or team-building activity. It’s also a great way to get students to get to know each other and buy into the purpose of an upcoming activity or lesson.
✅ Play Writing Exercise: Students can work in groups to create skits or scenes then perform the skits for the class.
✅ Writing Response: Students can be given a scenario to read and then write their responses. Students can switch papers with a partner who then reads their responses and determines whether they agree/disagree with their responses/approaches to these real-life scenarios/ situations as well as their explanations to whether or not the friends are real or fake (in these situations).
✅ Discussion: Students can discuss the Scenario Task Cards in groups or whole class. They can discuss things like "Is this person a real or fake friend - why or why not?" "What ELSE would a real friend do or say in this situation?", "How can you respectfully handle this situation?" “Why would you do that?”, and “What are some other options you could consider in terms of what you would do or say to a 'friend' like this?"

French basic personal description appearances emotions describing people Bundle
By The Librarian's Language Loft
This basic core French FSL bundle helps to review vocabulary related to describing people, their physical appearance and emotions. There are templates for interviewing a partner, "investigating" one's teacher and more low prep activities.
Resource 1 Describing People
Included:
- Teacher overview and further activity suggestions
-Three culturally diverse panels of photographs for the game Guess who/Qui suis-je? Photograph panels can be shared with students to play with partners, printed (color) or used for the class to play with a projector.
-Three printable sheets with descriptions for students to match the descriptions to photos.
-Handout to help students ask questions for the activity “Twenty Questions”
-Ten hidden celebrity pictures for students to try to identify by asking “Twenty Questions”. Squares are removed as they ask each question.
-Templates for students to create their own “Wanted” posters with descriptions of a friend. Plus they can make up their friends "crime" and add a photograph if done in Google slides.

Vocabulary Review:
Physical descriptions/Facial

Basic sentence structures
Please note: This resource works best using a projector in class or if students can view copies on Google classroom. Printing the photograph grid in b/w would not work well for the physical descriptions.

Students can interview their classmates to get extra speaking practice. Next they can either write about the classmate (Tout sur ____) or about themselves with several templates to pick from (Tout sur moi!). Finally there are 24 personal basic profiles given with 3 suggested games and activities for more speaking practice with personal questions (i.e. How old are you? What is your favorite pastime?).
In addition to the pre-designed templates, there are blank options which gives more flexibility to stronger classes. There are 22 interview questions included which students can use for support while writing a paragraph. There is a simplified version also included.
Included:
-Four template formats including smartphone, retro signs, basic style or pennant flag
-Let students investigate you with "Qui est mon prof?" (2 levels included)
-Students also become a detective with "Le Détective des Camarades"
-A list of 22 basic questions (with English for support) - this allows students to pick their own sentences or it could be used for an interview
-Blank templates that allow for more personalized sentences
-Additional templates to write about a classmate
-Twenty questions handout (with English support)
-Twenty-four basic personal profiles and suggested activities and games
-Bonus activity : Guess who ? Students write 8 clues and classmates have to guess who it is...
Resource 3 - Emotions - Question du jour
This basic French (FSL) four corners activity helps to encourage conversation with beginner FSL students while focusing on emotions (l'apprentissage social et émotionnel). -Three culturally diverse panels of photographs for the game Guess who? Photograph panels can be shared with students to play with partners, printed (color) or used for the class to play with a projector.
-Three printable sheets with descriptions for students to match the descriptions to photos.
-Handout to help students ask questions for the activity “Twenty Questions”
-Ten hidden celebrity pictures for students to try to identify by asking “Twenty Questions”. Squares are removed as they ask each question.
-Templates for students to create their own “Wanted” posters with descriptions of a friend. Plus they can make up their friends "crime" and add a photograph if done in Google slides.

In addition to the pre-designed templates, there are blank options which gives more flexibility to stronger classes. There are 22 interview questions included which students can use for support while writing a paragraph. There is a simplified version also included.
Included:
-Four template formats including smartphone, retro signs, basic style or pennant flag
-Let students investigate you with "Who is my teacher?" (2 levels included)

-Twenty questions handout
-Twenty-four basic personal profiles and suggested activities and games
-Bonus activity : Guess who ? Students write 8 clues and classmates have to guess who it is...

When people do things we don’t like, we get upset, angry, hurt, and/or disappointed because they don’t act or behave in a manner that we want or expect them to. Sometimes, we try to force or manipulate them into acting and behaving a certain way. We need to give up on trying to control others by letting them make their own decisions and verbalizing and dealing with our disappointments in an appropriate manner.
It is important for teenagers to understand that the way they react and respond to situations can either add fuel to the fire or diffuse tension, resolve conflict, and minimize negative emotions. Teaching teens how to respond appropriately to situations both verbally and nonverbally, even when they are angry, hurt, and disappointed can greatly help them prevent conflicts from escalating.
These THREE activities will give students to practice managing their disappointments, anger, and concerns in an appropriate manner. Students will practice expressing their concerns, disappointments, or feelings in a way that is mature and respectful.
This resource features a total of 6 real-life, highly relevant scenarios that come in the following variations BOTH Print and Digital):
✅ Variation #1 - Graphic Organizer-style with example - A worksheet that includes a total of two scenarios and an example of how NOT to respond in the given situations. Students will, instead, determine appropriate and mature ways to respond in such situations. (Variation #1 worksheets include a total of 3 worksheets / 2 scenarios on each worksheet.) Answer Keys are included for this variation.
✅ Variation #2 - Writing Response-style - Worksheets that include one scenario (***the SAME scenarios in VARIATION #1 worksheets). This variation is a writing response-style worksheet. (Variation #2 worksheets include a total of 6 worksheets and the SAME exact scenarios in Variation #1 worksheets!) Students read the scenario and answer the following question:
How would you manage your emotions in this situation? How would you express your concern, disappointment, or feelings in a way that is mature and respectful?
☆☆☆ The different variations can greatly support your differentiation efforts! ☆☆☆
**************************************
▶️ ABOUT Having Courageous Conversations / Communicating Courageously

Sometimes, people’s inconsiderate and selfish behaviors can upset, hurt, frustrate, and embarrass you and can cause an argument or conflict between you and the person. These situations can unleash strong emotions and cause resentment, which is why it is important to respectfully raise these issues with the people involved and have these courageous conversations. Raising issues and setting boundaries in a respectful, non-confrontational manner can increase awareness of the situation, resolve conflicts, and prevent damaging relationships.
This resources features 6 highly relevant scenarios where students practice raising the uncomfortable issues presented to the person/people involved in a respectful, non-confrontational manner.
This resource features a total of 6 real-life, highly relevant scenarios that come in the following two variations (BOTH Print and Digital):
✅ Variation #1 - Guidance Question/Statement- style - A worksheet that includes one scenario and four guidance questions in the form of statements to help them practice having productive, informative, and respectful courageous conversations in a non-confrontational manner. ☆ Detailed Answer Keys/Sample Responses are included for this variation.
Explain how you would handle this situation, and how you would raise this issue to the person involved in a respectful, non-confrontational manner.

Most students have cell phones and communicate with family, friends, and classmates through text messaging. Just about ALL students are familiar with text messaging. Why not teach and practice social skills, kindness, empathy, effective communication, and SO MUCH MORE in such a way that appeals to their interests?! No student will be able to resist these activities - for real!
This resource includes a total of 12 Text Messaging Activity Worksheets that come in four different text messaging formats! There are three worksheets for each format, totaling 12 text messaging worksheets. Students are asked to read a text message, some longer than others, and respond appropriately. Responding appropriately to text messages despite feelings of anger, frustration, betrayal, etc. can greatly help students prevent conflicts from escalating and drama from arising. Additionally, these activities give students an opportunity to "FILTER THEIR THOUGHTS and MOUTHS"! They will ultimately understand the concept that it's not what is said, but how it is said. They will feel encouraged to choose their words wisely when communicating with others.
The text message conversations and topics are age appropriate, HIGHLY relevant, familiar, and FUN! Students will easily identify with some of the people engaging in these text conversations. It would be interesting to see what students can infer and how they will respond in such situations. Additionally, you can extend these conversations by having students read them aloud so they can "hear" what social skills sounds like and what it doesn't.
☆☆☆ The different variations can greatly support your differentiation efforts! ☆☆☆

Toxic and inconsiderate behaviors involve creating drama, dragging people down, manipulating or controlling others, being needy and making it all about you, using others to meet your personal needs, and being critical and judgmental of one’s self and others. These toxic and inconsiderate behaviors ultimately lead to negative effects including, but not limited to, holding people back from being happy, peaceful, and productive, causing unwelcoming feelings like stress, anger, depression, and sadness, which ultimately can harm one’s health, affect relationships, and overall sense of well-being. Many students (and adults) are oblivious to the toxic and inconsiderate behaviors and interactions they have with people in their lives.
✅ This resource includes 22 activities that exposes students to the wide range of toxic and inconsiderate behaviors that not only surround them, but that they experience everyday from people they interact with.
✅ The activities can be used to help students identify which toxic and inconsiderate behaviors are actually present in their lives, help them explore their own roles in toxic interactions, build awareness of it, and practice using strategies to navigate toxic and inconsiderate behaviors.
✅ Students are also encouraged to understand the root causes of toxic behaviors. By understanding the root causes for toxic behaviors, attitudes, and habits, students can practice building their social awareness and empathy skills and respond appropriately, rather than in such a way that can cause potential problems.

Negative thoughts have a profound effect on students’ academic and social successes, behaviors, emotions, self-esteem, and happiness. Negative thinking and self-talk can hold them back and keep them from their full potential. In cognitive behavioral therapy, there are dozens of thinking errors that cause the mind to believe things that are just not true. Empower students to escape negative thinking by guiding them to reframe negative, faulty thoughts to positive thoughts. These engaging, highly relevant scenarios can provide students the opportunity to practice reframing their thinking in difficult situations that they experience everyday! It's important to think before you speak, especially in social situations. Many times, people, including students and adults, react quickly without really considering the situation. When you respond without taking a moment to think about different aspects of the situation and how others might feel, it can lead to problems. Taking the time to think before responding helps improve relationships, allows for better self-expression, and makes it easier to find solutions to problems.
► This resource features 24 highly relevant scenarios that revolve around social conflicts. Students are prompted to consider various aspects such as alternate perspectives, people's motives, intentions, and feelings before providing a response. After this reflection, they are asked to articulate how they would react in a manner that is both appropriate and respectful.
▶️ 24 Task Cards (COLORED and B&W)
✅ There are 24 Scenario Task Cards, each featuring a single scenario followed by a corresponding question:
What should you consider in this situation, and what would be an appropriate response?
✅ The Scenario Task Cards are versatile and can be incorporated into various settings, including larger lessons, guided small groups, whole-class discussions, partner discussions before sharing with the entire group, or one-on-one sessions with a teacher, guidance counselor, or parent/guardian. How/When To Use the Scenario Task Cards
► Role-Playing: Students have the opportunity to engage in collaborative role-playing exercises, either in pairs or groups, where they act out diverse scenarios to showcase appropriate responses. These activities serve as effective tools for demonstrating the adept handling of challenging situations, emphasizing the importance of considering others' perspectives and feelings. Ultimately, participating in these role-playing exercises can enhance confidence, communication, and assertiveness skills.
► Icebreaker: This can be a great way to start a meeting, training session, or team-building activity. It’s also a great way to get students to get to know each other and buy into the purpose of an upcoming activity or lesson.
► Play Writing Exercise: Students can work in groups to create skits or scenes then perform the skits for the class and demonstrate appropriate responses.
► Writing Response: Students can be given a scenario to read and then write their responses. Students can switch papers with a partner who then reads their responses and determines whether they agree/disagree with their responses/approaches to these real-life scenarios/ situations.
► Discussion: Students have the opportunity to engage in group or whole-class discussions centered around the Scenario Task Cards. Topics of discussion may include considerations such as, "What factors should we take into account about the situation and other people's perspectives and feelings before responding?" Participants can explore strategies for respectfully handling the given scenarios, pondering questions like "Why choose that approach?" and "What alternative options might one consider in terms of actions or responses in these situations?"
