ACTS Prayer Lessons: Worksheets, Activity, Task Cards

By Catholic Kids

This product will help you teach your students about the ACTS Prayer format. They will learn about Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication. There are worksheets for added practice, a Speed Sort Activity, and an Adoration Word Cloud project to help students engage with the prayer.

ACTS Prayer Lesson Instructions

Activity “ACTS Prayer Speed Sort” Pages 4-12

**This activity gives the students the opportunity to read examples of each type of prayer. Students can use these cards to sort at their own speed, race against their neighbor, or play any other games that you use in your classroom. There are two versions—simple prayer examples and bible verse examples. The bible verse version is more difficult, and there is also more room for interpretation with the bible verses. Students will have good opportunities to discuss and debate their decisions as they think about the meaning of the verses.

Worksheet “ACTS Prayer Sorting” Page 13

**This worksheet can be used with either version of the Speed Sort. Students can copy down the prayers under each heading to check their work and reinforce the learning.

Worksheet “Acts Prayer Basics” Page 14

Worksheet “Adoration Prayer Practice” Page 15

Worksheet “Write an ACTS Prayer” Page 16

**These three worksheets can be used to assess a student’s understanding of the topics and encourage a deeper understanding particularly of the Adoration Prayer since that is typically the most difficult area for my students.

Project “Adoration Word Cloud” Page 17-18

**Students draw a word cloud using at least 30 words of adoration. The list is primarily names of God, so they can also include other statements of adoration.

**Students should make this look artistic by using different writing styles, colors, and sizes of writing. I usually find examples of word clouds online to give students a visual example of a word cloud. I included a page with a frame to use if wanted, or give students large poster board or cardstock.

Discussion “Quotes About Prayer” Page 19-20

**There are two sets of cards with quotes about prayer. One set is from Mother Teresa, the other from Martin Luther. I use the Mother Teresa set with my Catholic classes, and the Martin Luther set with the Protestant classes. These can be used in various ways, I ask students to read and discuss the meaning of each quote.

Posters “ACTS Prayer” Page 21-30

There is a very basic 1-page poster, as well as a cuter version. There are also posters with sentence starters for students who struggle to remember the format when leading prayer. The last 4 slides are large letters (A, C, T, S) that can be used on the wall to reinforce the acronym.

Who Should Use This Resource: This resource is ideal for religious education teachers, youth group leaders, and catechists who are teaching students about the ACTS Prayer format. It is also useful for homeschool parents who want to provide their children with a structured approach to learning about prayer. With a variety of activities designed to accommodate different learning styles, this resource helps students develop a deeper understanding of Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication.

Enhanced Learning Experience: Incorporating these activities into your lessons not only helps students practice their prayers but also encourages them to engage with the material in a meaningful way. The Speed Sort activity and worksheets provide hands-on learning opportunities, while the Adoration Word Cloud project allows for creative expression. Discussion cards and posters further support students in understanding and remembering the ACTS Prayer format.

Flexible Classroom Application: Whether you are teaching in a classroom setting, a small group, or a homeschool environment, this resource offers flexibility in how you present and reinforce the ACTS Prayer format. The variety of materials ensures that you can adapt the lessons to suit the needs of your students, making prayer education both effective and enjoyable.
