Let's Dance: An Introductory Lesson in Dance Education

By MsNerdWood

So you have to teach MIDDLE SCHOOL DANCE...and you're FREAKING OUT...and wishing you had taken up your parents on those dance lessons that they offered you when you were a kid...and you DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START?

Look no further! Having danced my entire childhood I have a strong passion for dance education and I have put together a resource to get you started in teaching dance in grades 6-8.

Included in this resource is:

-A worksheet including important dance vocabulary (includes answers)

-A fun "Getting To Know You" Dance activity which leads to creating an entire class dance (don't worry you don't have to know ANY dance moves - the dance is created by turning natural body movements during conversation into dance moves)

-Includes questions to ask for Getting To Know You Activity

-Worksheets for students to keep track of their dance moves as they create their class dance

-A reflection for students to complete when they are done their class dance

These lessons are sure to provide you with about 5 or more full periods of dance fun. If you have any questions, please ask! I have used these activities with many different classes between grade 6 and 8 and the students always love creating the class dance.

Enjoy!
