8th Grade Gifted and Talented Webquests

Do you need an engaging activity to support your classroom community? Are you struggling to find an activity that isn't boring?? Do you want your students to have fun? Then download this Gifted and Talented Back to School Getting to Know You Activity WebQuest!

This fun and engaging WebQuest is a unique twist on the typical getting to know you activity. It combines the two things teenagers love, using technology and talking about themselves! Students are provided with 15 prompts that they must first quickly research. Then based on what they find, they share something about themself with their partner. It's fun, interactive, and will get all kids feeling comfortable to share about themself. This WebQuest can be completed in pairs or in small groups.

• Students go to a history website (URL provided) and choose an era in which they would love to live. Then, they share this information with their partner.
• Students go to a website about names and choose their favorite name. Then, they share something about their own name.

Women’s History month is celebrated each March. It was President Jimmy Carter who was the first president to establish the week of March 8 as National Women’s History Week back in 1980. In 1986, this was made into Women History Month. In 2024, the theme for Women’s History Month is "Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.” The theme is to highlight women who have tried to eliminate bias and discrimination in our lives. There are many women who have made contributions which have shaped our world.

Did you know that people actually thought that the airplane would have not real purpose? Less than 10 people showed up for the Wright Brothers attempt to make history on that December 17, 1903, morning. This informative web quest will help students learn about the Wright Brothers and their first flight. Extension activities as well as additional links for information are also provided as is the key. Ancient Mesopotamia! Mesopotamia, means “Land between Two Rivers”.This area is called the cradle of civilization and is where archaeologists have found the remains of the oldest historic people(dating back around 3000BC)People called the Sumerians, Babylonians, Chaldeans, Akkadians and Assyrians, all called the region of Mesopotamia home. These people left behind many ideas which we still have in our world today. This unit of study includes notes, map work, a webquest, activities and resources to help you teach your students about the people of Ancient Mesopotamia.

5. Studying ancient Mesopotamia? Looking to share with students contributions women have made in history. Enheduanna is the FIRST known poet, some say of men and women! Enheduanna's name is also thought to be the oldest name! ehneduanna's poetry was done in the FIRST person, something not done prior to her poetry. About the size of the state of Pennsylvania, it has been nicknamed the Hermit Kingdom because it is a country that few from the outside world have visited. With North Korea being in the news a lot lately, this might be a great opportunity to introduce students to the "Hermit Kingdom". Let’s Learn about the Romans!

Did you know that the idea of “sealed with a kiss” comes from Romans who signed every contract with a kiss? Did you know that a good luck symbol to ancient Romans were snakes? Or, that being pale was a sign of wealth to ancient Romans because it showed you didn't need to work outside(some women actually applied white chalk to their faces to get the look of being pale). I taught a unit on the ancient Romans to my 6th graders and thought you might find my notes, activities and resources of interest. I have a short 7 map question activity, lots of links and lots of activities to use with a chapter study on the ancient Romans. I also included a webquest activity.

Did you know that people actually thought that the airplane would have not real purpose? Less than 10 people showed up for the Wright Brothers attempt to make history on that December 17, 1903, morning. This informative web quest will help students learn about the Wright Brothers and their first flight. Extension activities as well as additional links for information are also provided as is the key. Several common core standards are addressed as well.
