8th Grade European History Independent Work Packet

This is a scavenger hunt using task cards that analyzes the Roman Empire's expansion, government and legacies left for the modern world which is studied in the 6th grade curriculum under the following standards:

• 6.5 As complex societies and civilizations change over time, their political and economic structures evolve. A golden age may be indicated when there is an extended period of time that is peaceful, prosperous, and demonstrates great cultural achievements.
• 6.5a Geographic factors influence the development of classical civilizations and their political structures.
• 6.5b Political structures were developed to establish order, to create and enforce laws, and to enable decision making.

This resource begins by challenging students with a mission, complete the tasks to conquer nearby territories to expand the Roman Empire's control and defend Roman from invasions by their enemies; failure will result in the downfall of Rome. Check out the preview to see what each task card entails. Students will need to walk around the room reading the task cards. Each task card has a code word on the bottom which is the answer to the question/fill in the blank. The answer will NOT be found on that same task card. For example, the answer to task card #1 is found by reading the passage on task card #6. Students MUST record which task card they found the answer on in their answer sheet under the “FOUND CARDS #” column. That column will be used at the end for the 4 digit lock code. They will follow the clues to find the correct 4 digit code. Once they have completed the scavenger hunt they will receive a half sheet of paper stating that they have successful expanded the empire and defended off all enemy attacks!

This activity would be a great review before assessments, as a center activity, a group activity, etc. Students will be engaged with the learning while having a fun time trying to solve all of the clues!

This resource begins by challenging students with a mission, act as Alexander the Great and conquer new lands across Africa, Europe, and Asia, just as Alexander did over 2,000 years ago; failure will result in them "perishing", unable to overcome the rugged terrain and powerful enemies that stand in your way. Check out the preview to see what each task card entails. Students will need to walk around the room reading the task cards. Each task card has a code word on the bottom which is the answer to the question/fill in the blank. The answer will NOT be found on that same task card. For example, the answer to task card #1 is found by reading the passage on task card #6. Looking for a fun and competitive no prep lesson for students to revise their Medieval Europe knowledge. Based on the addictive game of Tetris. Students roll dice (Dice not included) the randomly be asked a revision question. If correct they place their piece onto the Tetris game board.

Resources:

• A3 Tertris revision sheet
• Instructions included in the revision sheet
  • 1. Roll dice. This will give you your tetrominoe.
    2. Roll dice again. You have to answer the question to drop the tetrominoe. If you are
    incorrect, your opponent can drop the tetrominoe.
    3. Tetrominoe can be rotated to drop in any way but CANNOT be placed underneath. 4. Complete a row to earn a point. The most points by the end of the game wins.
    5. The game ends when a tetrominoe touches the top bar.

No prep slides for this and engaging fun role-play/simulation activity with supporting worksheets and lessons plans for middle/high school students. Plus Source analysis guide and task to examine the reaction to the treaty.

The role-play has students in groups of 4 ideally. With each student playing the role of the Big three and Germany. Using the background cards, the players try to achieve the objective of their nation with the treaty. They write out their conditions on the provided A3 Treaty Worksheet before sharing their decision against he actual treaty, were they more or less hard?.

Then proceeded to analysis four sources (in the in step by step Poworpoint) on the reaction to the Treaty of Versailles. Its lots of fun.

Looking for a fun and competitive no prep lesson for students to revise their Weimar Republic and Nazi Germany knowledge. Based on the addictive game of Tetris. Students roll dice (Dice not included) the randomly be asked a revision question. If correct they place their piece onto the Tetris game board.

Resources:

• A3 Tertris revision sheet

• Instructions included in the revision sheet

  • 1. Roll dice. This will give you your tetrominoe.
    2. Roll dice again. You have to answer the question to drop the tetrominoe. If you are
    incorrect, your opponent can drop the tetrominoe.
    3. Tetrominoe can be rotated to drop in any way but CANNOT be placed underneath. 4. Complete a row to earn a point. The most points by the end of the game wins.
    5. The game ends when a tetrominoe touches the top bar.

• Answer sheet
