Suggestions on how you can use the Multiple-Choice Inference Task Cards:
1. Quiz or Test - You can make a copy of the set of Task Cards and distribute to each student as a quiz or test. You, as the teacher , can then select the Task Card Inference question that students performed the lowest on and use that to review and develop/modify your instruction.
2. Small Group Instruction - You can have students engage in small group instruction where you provide additional support on the skill of inferencing. These Inference Task Cards will support that type of instruction. You can have all students in small groups practice with the same inference task card question number or you can distribute 1-2 Task Cards to each student to practice, then review.
3. Mini Lesson - You can load these Inference Task Cards on the Smartboard and use them to demonstrate how to make an inference. They can also be used to discuss the importance of details and how they are used to encourage inferential thinking. You can even use these Task Cards to discuss the difference between relevant details and irrelevant details. Finally, you can use these Inference Task Cards during the guided practice portion of your lesson.

SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO USE THE SHORT STORY INFERENCE TASK CARDS
Quiz or Test - You can distribute a copy of the Inference Task Cards (one or more task cards at a time), OR you can distribute one Short Story Inference Worksheet to each student to complete and count as a quiz or test. You, as the teacher, can then select the inference story number that students performed the lowest on or appeared to have difficulty making inferences with and use that to review or reteach the skill.
Small Group Instruction - You can have students engage in small group instruction where you provide additional support on the skill of inferencing. These Inference Task Cards will support that type of instruction. You can have all students in small groups practice with the same Inference Task Card story number or you can distribute 1-2 Task Cards to each student to practice, then review.
Mini Lesson - You can load these Inference Task Cards (or Inference stories) on the Smartboard and use them to demonstrate how to make an inference. They can also be used to discuss the importance of details and how they are used to support inferential thinking. You can even use these Inference Short Stories to discuss the difference between relevant details and irrelevant details. Finally, you can use these Short Story Inference Task Cards during the Guided Practice portion of your lesson.
Exit Slips - You can use these Task Cards as Exit Slips by distributing one Inference Worksheet (Remember, there are 32 of them!) to each student to complete and hand in to you before they leave.
Partner Study - You can have students pair up and “test each other.” Partners not only ask each other to make valid inferences, but to highlight or underline specific details in the selection/passage to support their inference-based answers and ideas.
FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT - Excellent for Formative Assessments! These quick and "to-the-point" Short Story Inference Worksheets can be used to see if students "got it." It can be done mid-lesson. You will be able to walk around the classroom and determine whether or not students have mastered the skill or understood the lesson just from a quick glance!

DESCRIPTION
Students always need additional support in mastering the skill of inferencing. You can use the The Giver Multiple-Choice Inference Task Cards to help students practice making inferences.
Task Cards
The first set of 16 Inference Task Cards consists of a short selection/passage from the book followed by an inference-based question. There are four multiple choice answers choices that students choose from. Students read the passage and choose the correct answer. Students will need to pay close attention to details to choose the correct answer. The inference questions are centered around character traits, character relationships, and situations. A Student Answer Sheet is included for students to write their answers.
The second set of 16 Inference Task Cards is the actual “Answer Key” set. The Answer Key set of Task Cards highlight the correct multiple-choice answers in the color red and highlights relevant evidence that supports the correct answers in the color yellow.
This is engaging practice for your students as it is perfect for mini-lessons, whole class instruction, cooperative learning, intervention groups, literacy centers, and small group instruction.
Test Format Version (Print and Digital)
Inference Graphic Organizer (Print and Digital)
Inference Bookmarks
4. Formative Assessment / Exit Slips - These Inference Task Cards make a great, quick formative assessment! You can easily check for understanding by distributing 1-2 Task Cards to each student to complete. You can circulate the room to do a "Quick Check" to see if students "Got it." You can also use these Task Cards as Exit Slips by distributing 1-2 Task Cards to each student to complete and hand in to you before they leave.
5. Partner Study - You can have students pair up and “test each other.” Partners not only ask each other to choose the correct multiple-choice answer, but to highlight or underline specific details in the selection/passage to support their inference-based answer. The Answer Key set of Task Cards are helpful in the sense that students can take ownership of reviewing the correct answers and sharing that with their partners**.**
6. Test Prep Review - You can use these Task Cards to review how to answer multiple-choice questions. You can also use these cards to teach students a variety of multiple-choice strategies (process of elimination, context clues, textual evidence, tone, etc.) to help them select the right answers to questions and aid comprehension.

Drawing Conclusions Questions, Making Inferences Questions, Inferences
This resource is also included in the following discounted Bundles:
**********************************
ABOUT THIS RESOURCE
This resource includes:
------ 44 COLORED Drawing Conclusions Question TASK CARDS
------ 44 B&W Drawing Conclusions Question TASK CARDS
------ 44 Drawing Conclusions Question STRIPS
------ List of Questions (Easy access for teachers)
**********************************
Drawing conclusions refers to information that is implied or inferred. Students use important textual information to make meaning out of what is not clearly stated by authors/writers. Writers give readers hints or clues that help them “read between the lines,” since not everything is explicitly stated. Drawing conclusions enables students to move beyond simple decoding.
Drawing Conclusions is an important skill students need to master to enhance their comprehension of texts and “think outside the box.” Drawing conclusions is not only used in content areas, but also in problem solving, and in social interactions.
This resource features a combination of 44 Drawing Conclusions questions and question stems that cover the topics of character, setting, events, author, and quote analysis. They can be used as writing prompts, discussion/debate questions, or both! These Task Cards and Question Stem Strips can be used in a variety of ways and would make an AMAZING supplement to any lesson.
DESCRIPTION
44 Drawing Conclusions Question TASK CARDS - These Drawing Conclusions Question Task Cards can be used as part of a larger lesson, in guided small groups, whole-class discussions, partner discussion before sharing out with the larger group or class, writing prompt activities, formative assessment during or after reading, journal-writing, or even one-on-one with a teacher or parent/guardian! You can print the Task Cards out on gloss paper or regular paper and laminate. You may also organize them in a binder ring.
44 Drawing Conclusions Question Strips - These sentence question strips are beautifully created and feature the same Drawing Conclusion questions in the Task Cards. They can be cut, distributed, and used in many ways including distributing one or two to each student to think about, share their thinking and responses with a partner, or you can simply randomly choose a question strip and call on student to answer - Be creative!
LIST of Drawing Conclusions Questions
Also included is a 2-page LIST of Drawing Conclusion questions/question stems to allow easier access for teachers to read and select questions to work with. It’s like an overview page of the Drawing Conclusion questions listed in the Task Cards and Strips.
Lesson plans are not included. These Drawing Conclusion Question Task Cards can be used in addition to your own lesson plans and in such a way that best meets the needs of your students.
