With this interactive scavenger hunt students will learn fun and interesting Hanukkah related facts like: Did you know Hanukkah is also known as the festival of lights? Or Did you know there is 16 different ways to spell Hanukkah? The scavenger hunt includes 18 fact cards and asks students to read the cards closely for information to fill in the answer sheets. Fact cards are numbered and provide all the information needed for students.
This scavenger hunt will still work broken into shorter segments for multiple lessons or a shorter activity.
This scavenger hunt also works well as a scoot game!

Students may also watch the short film « La boîte ». There are questions for class discussion or for students to respond independently in writing. Finally, students may also become music critics as they listen to a selection of songs curated for February. A template is included to help students share their opinion on the songs.

This resource includes a visual tour of Ireland and an overview of the traditions of la Saint-Patrick. The slideshow shares basic information on Irish traditions including St. Patrick’s Day. This English Second Language ESL ELL EAL resource helps to practice reading basic personal information. This low prep resource adds problem solving and movement into a second language classroom. Explanation:
The "Puzzle Street Gift Box Mix-Up" involves students in a scavenger hunt where they explore 10 centers, decipher clues, and unravel the mystery of a delivery mishap. Each card contains personal information about a family on Puzzle Street and poses a question. The catch? The answer lies on another card. Students embark on a scavenger hunt, moving from one station to another to gather clues about each family and solve the puzzle. Place cards on the walls or scatter on tables around the room. Students must visit and read each card in order to answer the questions.

Students will work in collaborative groups. Each team will need a whiteboard to write their answers on. Each "Hint" slide includes five hints, one displayed at a time until all hints are presented. Each team will be given 10 seconds to write their answer on answer on the board. When the teacher says, "Jingle bells." All teams show their answers. Each team that guesses the correct answer will receive a token.

If you need an activity for 1-2 days, this lesson is easy to modify to the time limitations you may have. This lesson takes students on a journey using Journey Cards to cities and towns around the world that have Christmas names. Students will work in teams and will use Google Earth Online to explore each location on the Journey Cards as well as practice plotting the absolute location of each location. Students will look at the location, the physical characteristics, and fun facts. Every moment is a teaching moment, even those days before the holiday break.
OBJECTIVES:
(1) The learner will plot the coordinates of towns with Christmas names on a coordinate plot map using latitude and longitude (Absolute Location).
(2) The learner will explore cities and towns around the world with Christmas and winter-themed names using Google Earth.
(3) The learner will identify the continent, hemisphere, physical features, and interesting physical or cultural facts related to each city or town.
(3) The learner will evaluate and compare the towns and cities' location, environment, and living conditions to determine where they would most and less likely live.

How does it work?
Your students will work to complete 5 Language Arts-based tasks about Hanukkah in order to learn more about this important and beloved holiday.
Origin Story: In the first task, students must correct incorrectly used homophones within the origin story of Hanukkah.
Quote Worthy: In the second task, students must identify parts of speech within 7 quotes about Hanukkah.
Figuratively Traditional: In the third task, students must identify figurative language woven into passages describing popular Hanukkah traditions.
The Miracle: In the fourth task, students must answer multiple choice questions about the poem, The Miracle by Philip M. Raskin.
Criss-Cross: In the fifth and final task, all students have learned throughout the stations activity will come together as they must fill out a crossword puzzle about Hanukkah. Once they have completed the puzzle and cracked the final code, they are done.
