PBL | HERITAGE/PATRIMOINE | DIVERSITY/DIVERSITÉ | CULTURE | FOOD/NOURRITURE |
By French Made Fun!
Engage students in exploring cultural diversity through enlightening interviews and vibrant creative projects focused on food. Foster empathy, curiosity, and global awareness.
This 13-page project-based (PBL) unit features three assignments for students to explore cultural diversity through:
"Mon projet de patrimoine familiale": Interviewing their own family members and creating a brochure or pamphlet summarizing their family's traditions.
Included with this project is a lesson plan with suggestions, rubric, success criteria, a letter to parents (in both English and French) as well as the interview (in both English and French).
"Mon héritage culinaire": A class recipe book activity featuring your students' traditional recipes used in their families and passed down through generations.
Included with this project is success criteria with explanations.
Includes simple recipe template sheet.
"L'exploration des plats culturels": A project that will have students creating a realistic, informative ethnic cuisine menu.
Included with this project are 6 short stories about kids around the world and their culinary traditions (Japan, China, Africa, India, Mexico and Greece).
Also included are success criteria and explanations as well as a rubric.
I use this product with my 5th graders, but teaching cultural diversity, acceptance and global awareness are universal. This project-based resource would work for students in grades 5 through 9.
For goodness sakes, don't forget to have fun!

Lent & Holy Week Unit with PowerPoint, Guided Notes, and Test. Print and Teach!
By Catholic Kids
This is EVERYTHING you need to teach about Lent and Holy Week!
This all-inclusive unit contains everything you will need to teach the basics about Lent and Holy Week. It includes the Catholic guidelines for fasting and abstinence as well as information on the traditional services for Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday. The students will read their way through the scriptures and summarize each portion of the Passion and Resurrection of Christ.
This lesson plan includes a PowerPoint presentation that contains all the words you will need to lead the students through the guided notes. It's a compulsive 85 slides of information!
There are two PowerPoint versions...one with images and one without. You can open the version with images and you're ready to present. Or, you can take some time to add your own pictures so you can choose serious or silly to engage your class in the lesson. The slides are ready for pictures and adding that should take about 20-30 minutes, then you're ready to present.
The guided notes are easy for any level of student to complete as you work through the PowerPoint. It's simple enough that the basic students can complete the notes. There are also numerous open-ended questions to challenge the more advanced students.
The test includes multiple-choice, matching, and short answer questions. The questions are pretaught in the packet with a review guide so the students can be completely prepared for the exam. Answers are listed in the PowerPoint.
If you want to add a quick read-aloud to the lesson, The Tale of Three Trees: A Traditional Folktale is my favorite!

Lent Stations of the Cross Presentation: Prewriting, Project Outline, and Rubric
By Catholic Kids
This product contains everything you need to help students create a Stations of the Cross Presentation. The students will be expected to create a 14 slide PowerPoint Presentation reflecting on the 14 Stations.
Includes a Word Document & PDF of the following:
~Stations of the Cross Presentation Expectations: This document can be handed out to students when the project is assigned. It covers the expectations for the project, as well as a small rubric so they can see how the project will be graded.
~Stations of the Cross Outline: I would copy this onto the back of the Expectations worksheet. It will remind the students of the order of the stations. There are bible verses for each station. Most of the verses tell the story of that particular station. Some verses were selected as a reflection on the station.
~Stations of the Cross Bible Verses: I would print these two pages as a front/back worksheet for the students to use as a prewriting exercise. They will be asked to read the scripture verses and write a short summary and reflection of the station before they get on the computer.
~Stations of the Cross Rubric: This can be used to grade the presentations. Feel free to change the point values as you see fit for your class.
Also includes a PowerPoint Presentation with the following:
~Expectations for the presentations
~An example and explanation of the ACTS prayer format
~Small version of the rubric
~Example slides to show how their presentations can look
1st Station: Jesus is condemned to death
2nd Station: Jesus carries His cross
3rd Station: Jesus falls for the first time
4th Station: Jesus meets his mother
5th Station: Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus to carry his cross
6th Station: Veronica wipes the face of Jesus
7th Station: Jesus falls the second time
8th Station: Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem
9th Station: Jesus falls a third time
