Students respond to several statements that challenge or support their preconceived ideas about key concepts as well as their peers’ ideas. The Anticipation Guides can help structure meaningful conversations that reviews what students already know and engages them in critical thinking about the topic they will be exploring. The statements in the Anticipation Guides can spark some great discussions among students!! This Anticipation Guide and Self-Assessment focuses on Growth Mindset.
*******************************
You can use an Anticipation Guide:
✅ Before/after introducing new material to tap into prior knowledge
✅ Before/after watching a film clip to gauge a reaction
✅ Before/after reading a short text to begin a discussion
✅ Before/After discussing a topic

ANTICIPATION GUIDES
There is ONE Anticipation Guide that comes in two different variations:
▶️ Variation #1:
⭐ Part 1: The first section of the Anticipation Guide features a list of statements alongside columns labeled "AGREE" and "DISAGREE." Students are tasked with reading each statement and marking either "AGREE" or "DISAGREE" based on their perspective.
⭐ Part 2: The second section of the Anticipation Guide prompts students to choose a statement from the list above and delve into its significance to them. They may reflect on how the statement connects to their own lives, share a personal experience related to it, or elaborate on their thoughts concerning its importance in greater detail.
▶️ Variation #2: This Anticipation Guide worksheet format includes a list of statements accompanied by columns for "AGREE," "DISAGREE," and "COMMENTS." Students are instructed to read each statement and mark either "AGREE" or "DISAGREE." They are then encouraged to elaborate on their thoughts or ideas regarding each statement in the designated "COMMENTS" column.
*******************************
SELF-ASSESSMENT
There is ONE Growth Mindset Self-Assessment included in this resource. Students will assess and recognize fixed mindset elements in themselves and identify areas in which they can work to develop a growth mindset by scoring the statements using the following scale: 2 for “Always,” 1 for “Sometimes,” and 0 for “Never.” They can use this assessment tool to help them identify areas where they can strengthen their growth mindset and improve their approach to challenges and learning.
These assessment statements can also serve as a means to explore students' competencies and viewpoints regarding the topic!

A Welcome Letter from your Teacher on the First Day of School Students & Parents
By Kirsten's Kaboodle
These back to school or first day of school welcome letters to students and parents are perfect for any elementary teacher who wants to start the year on a positive note! These welcome back to school letters come in printable and digital forms for whatever you prefer.
Please note: You MUST USE ADOBE READER to edit the editable fields in this file (the greeting and closing fields).
You will also find a GOOGLE Slides option to send paperless letters (via email or through Google). Look at the final six pages of the FILE for instructions on digitally sending these back-to-school letters to students and parents!
PLEASE NOTE: THE BODY OF THESE LETTERS ARE NOT EDITABLE. THERE ARE EDITABLE FIELDS IN THE GREETING AND SIGNATURE ONLY! If you are looking for a letter with an editable body, this is NOT the product for you!!
This welcome back to school product includes a letter that teachers can send home to parents and a letter that teachers can send home with students. Each letter comes in a variety of border choices and black-and-white versions.
The letter to parents comes with a neutral gender, a boy, or a girl version (the pronouns are changed throughout the letter). This letter has three color background options and the corresponding backgrounds in black and white.
The letter to students comes with three color background options and the corresponding backgrounds and clip art in black and white. Note: This letter does not require a neutral/boy/girl option since the teacher uses the pronouns "you" and "I" throughout the letter.
The new letters that have been added for 2020 can be found at the BEGINNING of the product file. You will find them on the first eight pages following the instructions for editing the text boxes in the greeting and signature fields.
All versions of each letter have editable text boxes in the Greeting Field and the Signature Field. You can edit these two places on each letter if you choose.
If you'd like to print the letters as is, you may write in the student's name and your own signature. Just for reference, the font is Miss Kindergarten by Kimberly Geswein and the size is 14. THE BODY OF THE LETTERS ARE NOT EDITABLE.
BOTH LETTERS ARE ORIGINAL! I have NOT copied a letter that I found online and retyped it. This is important because you may want to mix things up and send a new letter home this year.
If you have any questions about this product, please ask before purchasing. If you aren't sure how to edit text boxes, I've included a page of instructions at the beginning of the product for your convenience.
Did I mention that the BODY OF THE LETTERS ARE NOT EDITABLE? :-)
