Spooky Halloween Haunted House Fill In The Blank Descriptive Writing

This spooky writing is low prep and perfect for emerging writers and for reluctant writers!

Students will make the haunted house listing their own by choosing the appropriate adjective, name, verb or other part of speech. This makes it approachable for everyone!

For added flair, students can type up their finished product and then make a haunted house to color!

This is always a favorite lesson when teaching students about the Civil War. Students analyze various photos from the Civil War and record their observations, and thoughts as they go through the images on the graphic organizer. There is a also an extension activity for them to complete after the lesson.

The 11 high-quality photos encourage great discussions about women in the war, conditions for the soldiers, etc. (The images can be projected for a whole class lesson or could be shared with students for individual or group work. I have also included a PDF copy so the photos can be printed and used for a gallery walk. There are many possibilities for use. )

It provides students with a chance to reflect on their music preferences while learning about musical terms, and about an online music streaming site. It is a chance for your students to curate their own playlists. This activity is suitable for grade 6-8 students. As our students are completing written assignments, sometimes coming up with characters, a setting, and a plot is difficult. With this product students are provided with a lengthy list of female names, male names, and gender neutral names to choose from, possible setting ideas that also include words that focus on the time of day, time of year, days of the week, and months. This packet also provided plot ideas for a variety of writing assignments such as story ideas about life, science fiction, adventure, mystery, fantasy, funny stories, friendship, superhero, family, and animal story ideas. Students do not have to use the examples provided or even the characters names, but it does provide them with a boost of confidence to pick their own topic.

Celebrate summer with this engaging communal story-telling activity!

"Summer Collaborative Story Time" is a communal story-telling activity in which students practice using Freytag's Pyramid plot structure in their own narrative writing. In this activity, each student begins a story inspired by a unique summery-themed photograph. They are prompted to write the exposition of the tale by introducing the setting and main characters. After the allotted amount of time, the story is then passed to another student who is prompted to write the inciting incident or conflict and begin to detail the rising action. The paper is passed from student to student twice more until the story is resolved. When the stories are finished, the worksheet is returned to the original student who can then make edits and is responsible for producing a final draft.

With this intrinsically engaging activity, each student has the chance to tap into their creativity while applying knowledge of the 7 steps of Freytag's Pyramid. It is a great activity to introduce or reinforce the plot diagram and is ideal for the end of the year or in summer school. Since it runs itself, the lesson is also great for substitute plans or on those days when you need a quick plan to get you through the day. I trust you will find that your students will ask for this activity again and again!
