Each inference-based question can be treated as an extended response where students must make inferences and support their responses, ideas, and/or analysis with evidence from the text.

► There is a "combo" worksheet, which includes all five questions on two pages. There are also 5 separate worksheets that include the same questions on a different worksheet. This allows for more extensive responses. You can have students either complete all five inference-based questions on the "combo" worksheet all at once OR you can have students complete each of the questions at different times: for classwork, independent practice, homework, or formative assessment - your choice! You can even give students different questions depending on their levels - excellent for differentiation.

Please note that if your students are not familiar with fixed mindset and growth mindset, they will need some basic information prior to using these journal prompts in order to understand the connection to growth mindset. This might mean that you give a brief explanation for each prompt prior to completing each activity.

These Growth Mindset Journal Prompts are perfect for any 4th grade (and UP) classroom. Please note that 4th-grade students may need extra explanation and discussion time to fully comprehend all the concepts and questions, but are fully capable of the reflection that is required.

These journal prompts can be used with iPads, chrome books, laptops, and desktops as long as your students have access to Google Drive or Classroom on a device. The digital portion of this product is on Google Slides.

Kirsten Tulsian has 18 years of experience in elementary education. She has been a homeroom teacher for first grade, third grade, and fourth grade, as well as ESL. She has also been a school counselor for grades PK-6, an ESL pullout teacher for K-6, and a Reading Recovery Teacher. She received her Bachelor’s degree in elementary education and psychology from The University of Iowa and a Master’s of Education in school counseling from Sam Houston State University. Each inference-based question can be treated as an extended response where students must make inferences and support their responses, ideas, and/or analysis with evidence from the text.

► There is a "combo" worksheet, which includes all five questions on two pages. There are also 5 separate worksheets that include the same questions on a different worksheet. This allows for more extensive responses. You can have students either complete all five inference-based questions on the "combo" worksheet all at once OR you can have students complete each of the questions at different times: for classwork, independent practice, homework, or formative assessment - your choice! Writing

• Students fill out an interest survey
• Students read about passive, assertive, and aggressive voices and how they are used in writing on a Google Form and then answer the questions in the Google form
• Students respond to one of the listed prompts in a journal, piece of paper or Google Doc following the given requirements.
• Students choose a college in their state (that they haven't researched or toured before) and take a virtual tour at Campus Tours. Then they fill out the Campus Tour Reflection provided.

• Students research online to find what quote best represents their goals and aspirations for the school year. They will follow the directions and complete the highlighted sections of the Google Doc provided.

Collaboration

• Students answer the interview questions on a linked partner interview form. Then they get with a partner (someone they don't know well) and interview their partner and compare responses.
• Students use the template provided to create a podcast script with a partner that teaches other students about what AVID is and encourages them to join.
• Students create an "All About Me" digital collage by following the directions in the slides and using the example provided. Then share their design with an AVID classmate and explain why they picked each image.
• Students complete a selfie partner scavenger hunt with a partner around the school.
• Students open the linked Summer Break Bingo template and type in different activities they did over the summer. Then they find classmates who did the same activities and add their names to the bingo card.

Organization

• Students print out their school map and use a highlighter to draw a route to all their classes and follow the directions to label their maps.
• Students complete "week 1" of the linked binder check log and answer the reflection questions.
• Students clean up and organize their Google Drive or another cloud storage. They will create folders for each subject and ensure all documents are appropriately filed and take before and after pictures or screenshots.

Are you looking to make reviewing figurative language fun? Do you want your students to be engaged and motivated to learn? Then download this BUNDLE Similes Onomatopoeia and Alliteration a Figurative Language Activity! Well suited for the Language Arts or ELL classroom, your students will be having so much fun they will forget they are learning!

Students roll a die and find the corresponding instructions to create their own sentences using figurative language! The first one to complete a row or column wins the game! Can be played virtually or in-class - Virtual dice included! This activity can be played repeatedly as each game is unique. Laminate your gameboards and they can be used for years.
