7th Grade Specialty Internet Activities

This career unit bundle gives students an introduction to each of the 17 Career Clusters and focuses on research and projects to demonstrate what a career in this field would be like. This is perfect for a career, technology, CTE or business class. Each career cluster unit takes from 1-2 weeks and the entire bundle takes approximately 30 weeks if all of the materials are used. All units are available individually, if you prefer.

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.

The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be used with high school students. The teacher can choose to use some or all of the provided lesson options included in each unit.

Lesson Overview

These projects have students using real-world math skills to learn to perform the calculations that are done in various careers within the seventeen career clusters. They will use math skills to learn how to compute measurements, quantities, profit, etc. to solve problems commonly found in that career field.

Are your students always asking "When will be ever USE this??" This short activity shows students a real-world use for the math skills they learn every day.

These lessons were created for 7th and 8th grade but could also be used successfully in upper elementary grades. Fully editable files are included for all lessons.

The bundle includes eighteen (18) different lessons, all of which are also available separately. They are all fully editable and include the student handout, an answer key, and a formula “cheat sheet” for students to assist with problem solving.

This career unit gives students an introduction to the agriculture, food and natural resources career cluster and what a career in this field would be like. This is perfect for a career, technology, CTE or business class.

The included PowerPoint presentation can be used by the teacher for whole class instruction, or provided to the students electronically (or as a printout) for them to review individually. Students use close reading skills with a short informational passage to learn about the career field and answer questions to use critical thinking skills and demonstrate their understanding. Two different puzzles are included to learn different jobs in the career and to reinforce vocabulary skills. A technology based research project is included to allow students to use critical thinking and creativity to further explore the career field. Additionally, a group project that can be completed without student computer access (by the teacher printing out the linked information) or providing access to a computer for each group to research is provided to simulate the career and allow students to utilize critical thinking skills and teamwork. Finally, a short reflection questionnaire gives students the opportunity to reflect and analyze their learning as they determine if this career field is of interest to them.

The “Excelling with Excel” Intermediate Activities let students continue their learning with Microsoft Excel to include more intermediate commands. This lesson assumes student already have beginner skills with Microsoft Excel including knowing these basic commands: entering and editing information, basic cell and text formatting, changing column width, creating a basic formula (SUM, AVERAGE, basic math), adding a row or column, changing page settings, printing, and creating a basic chart/graph. What student doesn't love games – especially video games! In this lesson, students learn more about the origin and history of video games. Students choose a time period in history from a provided list, research that era, and then choose the software they will use to showcase their research. Students can choose to create a presentation, a brochure, or a video using Web 2.0 tools such as Prezi, Adobe Spark, eMaze, Canva, etc. (free, no download needed) or by using Microsoft Office or Google Apps. No download is required to use Powtoon (www.powtoon.com - a free product), making it easy for teachers who are not able to download software on classroom computers to still give their students a choice in learning. Students can also use MS PowerPoint or Google Slides for the project if the teacher prefers.

In this lesson, students are provided with a quick tutorial, as well as links to other resources to help them with their project. The tutorial is intended to help students get started with the program and then use the resources within the program to refine their creations. Students create an animated video presentation about one of the landmark cases of the Supreme Court after researching it. They use that information along with animation, characters and music (all supplied in Powtoon) to create a finished animated presentation that explains the case and adds their own opinions and insights to it.

The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be used with upper elementary or high school students.

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.
