ABC’s of Ancient Mesopotamia Book Project By History Guru

This project-based assignment gets students to research and interact with the vocabulary_, people, places, and concepts of Ancient Mesopotamia in a fun way. I have done this for over 10 years at the middle school level and it's been a BIG hit! Now at the high school level at a VPK - 12 school, my_ freshmen are so excited to present to the VPK4 kiddos at the lower school. Whether you present the books or not- this is a huge hit and great for comprehension_!_

Expectations

Step One

You will need to pick ONE item for each letter of the alphabet. For several letters, there is only one choice.

Step Two
For each letter, you need to: Explain what or who it is / was. You need to explain why this person, place or item was an important part of Mesopotamia’s history. Write a minimum of 2 sentences and a maximum of 5 for each explanation Draw a picture and neatly color it

Step Three
Complete a title page. (must include title, picture, your name and color)

Options:

Students get the option to complete the book on paper of some like to do it digital. My students loved using Canva to create their ABC books and print them out.

Trail Of Tears: Diary Research Project Google Slide

Telling the tale of the Trail of Tears? 

Trail of Tears National Historic Trail

Description: You will describe your Travel Alongside other Native Americans on Their Journeys to Oklahoma. You will be learning about the "Big Five" (the 5 tribes involved in the march), Native American traditions and customs, the Indian Removal Act of 1830, and the hard journey along the Trail of Tears. You will be taking on the role of a Native American during this time as you face the same struggles that you will be researching.

Intro: Let’s begin! There are 4 Modules that you will have to complete before beginning your 5 Diary Entries.  Each module is numbered and holds key information for each designated entry.  Under each module, follow the provided links, which will redirect you to a web page containing information on that particular subject.  Make sure you have a piece of paper and a pencil with you, as you will need to take notes/ ideas as you go about answering the questions. In the end, you will be assuming the role and name you have researched and chosen and writing five diary entries on your experience.

Organizations and nations create flags to convey important information about themselves. Flags have symbols that represent the beliefs of the people, cultural information, and political views. These symbols can express the qualities that the people value. Create four flags that reflect something about the people, places, or events you've been studying. Describe the symbols used on each flag.

Procedure:

Show the students the requirements and samples. Have them jot down ideas on a piece of loose paper. Proceed to the worksheet. If you would like to take it to the next level, students can make a big poster out of their review flags.

Technology Then & Now: A Team History / Research Project

In this lesson, students use critical thinking and research skills to determine how a specific form of technology evolved. Working with a partner or small group, students start with where their chosen technology was prior to 1900 and then take it through 5 more steps of evolution to the present day. Students use the Internet for research to determine what had to happen between each step to move their technology to the next iteration. Worksheets are provided for six high interest topics, with an editable blank form (PowerPoint) if the teacher chooses to add another topic (or let students choose a different topic). Character Traits of Leaders -Research & Presentation Project | Distance Learning

In this lesson, students identify leadership traits by researching leaders throughout history. They are provided with links to resources to help them research three individuals of their choice from three different time periods in history. Lists of leaders from each time period are provided to help them choose. Then, they use that information along with graphics, pictures and backgrounds from the Internet to create a finished presentation that explains the qualities of each leader, the similarities and differences, and add their own opinions and insights to the project as they learn how to apply leadership skills in their own life.

Two versions of instructions are provided to allow the lesson to be done individually or in small groups or partners. Projects can be presented in class or included on a website for viewing.

This is an excellent creative project to add to a unit in a career class, leadership class or to support a history/social studies unit. The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be used with upper elementary or high school students.

This lesson focuses on the innovations and inventions that are borne from tragedy, specifically as it relates to 9/11. This is perfect for technology class or for use in a Social Studies or History classroom that wants to incorporate technology with a lesson for Patriot Day, September 11th.

Students work in pairs or small groups to create a presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint (or Google Slides) about some of the things that were invented because of the disaster that occurred on 9/11 after researching them. They use the information gained from their research to create a finished presentation that explains a few of the inventions inspired by that disaster and add their own opinions and insights to it.
