This project is designed for students to create their own original artist/band and to market their newly formed artist(s). It is appropriate for middle school students (grad 6-8) and is always a crowd pleaser!

Students submit a band/artist portfolio which includes a profile about their artist/band, a concert poster, album cover art, and a jingle. The jingle can be performed using an instrumental track to a piece that they enjoy. Included are some examples of products that they could write a jingle about. A rubric for assessment purposes is included and you could even extend this project further by creating an art assessment piece for the album cover art and concert poster.

This assignment typically takes approximately 5-10 classes to complete, from introducing it to completing the final jingle performances. It is handy to have students to complete a rough copy of their work before submitting their good copy to ensure their best quality work is submitted.

This is a play script for Charles Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol'. It tells the story of a mean, old man named Ebenezer Scrooge, who runs a dark and miserable business. His workers are under-paid and over-worked, especially his assistant Bob Cratchett.

It is Christmas eve and his Bob asks for the day off to spend time with his family, and sick child – Tiny Tim. Scrooge almost refuses but decides to just dock his pay for the day. Then, that evening he gets a visit from his previous business partner – another miserable person called Jacob Marley.

Marley tells him he needs to change his ways or end up with the same fate as him; he tells him how he will be visited by three ghosts that night. The ghosts visit and show Scrooge various things that upset him enough to change his ways.

After the visits of the ghosts Scrooge wakes up on Christmas day a changed man and tries to put right all the wrongs he has caused over the previous decades!

This may be the most meaningful assignment you give to your students all year.

This product teaches students how to write a letter to a service member who is currently deployed overseas. It describes the importance of writing to our military and gives suggestions for what to say. I use this as an extra credit assignment and hold my students to high standards about the content of their letters. It is incredibly important that genuine thought and effort go into the letters as they are going to real people currently fighting for our country.

Cartoon Last Character Standing

Students will be given a list of Cartoon Characters to see how their characters are eliminated over a 10 day period during the Last Character Standing Games. They will be given a pair of dice that will be used to determine if the character moves on to the next day or if they are eliminated. On the back is a series of questions to ensure that students are learning about experimental probability. Very fun and there will be a lot of laughs.

Students often can/will recite the basics of SOME of the Bill of Rights but often do not know how they apply to their personal life. They believe that it was written years ago and does not have any relevant meaning to the HERE and NOW. With this interactive activity, my US History and Government classes dived into the Bill of Rights and learned how to apply each of the Amendments to their personal life. This brought about outstanding debates in class (and online) about civil rights and liberties.

This was created as a PDF document to use in the classroom. There is also a Digital Learning Format where it can be assigned to students to complete in a virtual setting such as Google Classroom, Canvas, etc.

Differentiate Novel Response - 7 different responses for students to choose from. This has been used as an accountability piece for students. Many of the options are also applicable to media literacy studies, so marks could be given for both reading and media.

This is a simple project, but it adds in real life scenario of what the cost is going out to eat. Students end up shocked at the cost of going out to eat! The students pick out a restaurant of their choice (can download the menu offline), "go out to eat" with three other family members, order, determine cost, sales tax and tip for a total of going out to eat for 4 people. This could be a group project with four students going out to eat and seeing what the cost is for each. Either way, it shows their decimal skills with basic math operations and gives them a new appreciation of going out to eat!

HOW TO PROPOSE A BILL PROJECT: GETTING YOUR CONCERNS OUT THERE BIG IDEAS: What is a problem in the state of Florida or right here in Lee County that you would like to change? Lets work together to create a solution. ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: 1. What is a bill? 2. How does a bill become a law? 3. What are checks that the legislative and executive branch has on each other in the law making process? SITUATION: You will be taking on the role of a lobbyist. During these crazy times Florida Legislature is very busy trying to keep us out of another Government shutdown. They have been receiving many petitions and concerns about how things are being run in the state of Florida, especially in areas such as Lee County. You have been chosen to propose a bill dealing with an issue that you feel needs the most addressing. Make sure that your bill is well researched and carefully stated seeing as Florida Legislature is so busy that they are not going to be able to meet with you. Your proposal will be submitted in poster form and due to government shortages; you will be providing a voting box. Please make sure that you advertise your bill well and that there is now question left unanswered, seeing as you will not be there to answer them. Good Luck and let the problem-solving process commence. Tell your own story:

Students enjoy telling their own Christmas stories. In this project, they will write and illustrate their stories of Christmas past, present, and yet to come, in a way that is similar to what happens to Scrooge in the novel.

I used this as a cumulative activity after the students had read the novel and before Christmas Break.

Students loved sharing their stories and hearing the hopes their classmates have for their futures.
