Lately, upsetting things have been happening in the world and the COVID-19 Pandemic is certainly one of them. Our students are very much affected emotionally, physically, and mentally by them. This mini COVID-19 Packet provides students an opportunity to reflect on their experiences during this pandemic and most importantly practice and learn new ways to cope with the challenges they are facing. It is important for us to talk about these challenges and help them develop the confidence and motivation to cope, conquer, overcome, and rise above them. Students certainly want to be part of the conversation and share their thoughts and feelings about the very issues that affect them.

This resource features 4 Activity Worksheets and ANSWER KEYS with BREATH-TAKING diverse graphics that are a clear representation of them, 8 COVID-19 Scenario Task Cards (that come in four variations), 8 Scenario Worksheets, and 3 POSTERS (same Poster in 3 variations) that can help spark some deep conversations among students as well as the reality of their situations. ***This resource features 8 REAL LIFE, HIGHLY RELEVANT COVID-19 scenarios that provides students opportunities to practice navigating and coping with difficult situations as well as respond appropriately and respectfully.

8 COVID-19 Scenario TASK CARDS

These Task Cards can be used as part of a larger lesson, in guided small groups, whole-class discussions, partner discussion before sharing out with the larger group or class, or even one-on-one with a teacher, guidance counselor, or parent/guardian! These Task Cards contain the same scenarios in the COVID-19 Scenario Worksheets.

You can print the Task Cards out on gloss paper or regular paper and laminate. You may also organize them in a binder ring.

How/When To Use the Scenario Task Cards

• Role-Playing: Students can collaborate in pairs or groups to act out a variety of scenarios and demonstrate appropriate responses. Role-playing activities can also be used to demonstrate how to appropriately handle or navigate difficult situations through effective responses and communication as well as be exposed to a variety of coping strategies to help them deal with challenges successfully. Students can practice and learn the variety of ways they can handle situations that test their ability to filter their thoughts, respond appropriately and maturely, and communicate effectively. This activity can ultimately improve confidence, communication, and assertiveness skills.
• Icebreaker: This can be a great way to start a meeting, training session, or team-building activity. It’s also a great way to get students to get to know each other and buy into the purpose of an upcoming activity or lesson.
• Play Writing Exercise: Students can work in groups to create skits or scenes then perform the skits for the class.
• Writing Response: Students can be given a scenario to read and then write their responses. You can ask questions like: How would you respond in this situation? What coping strategies can you use to help you navigate this difficult situation? Students can switch papers with a partner who then reads their responses and determines whether they agree/disagree with their responses/approaches to these real-life scenarios/situations.
• Discussion: Students can discuss the Scenario Task Cards in groups or whole class.
