I never seem to have enough time to practice measurement, geometry, and data, so I created these bellringers to quickly practice these skills with my class.

These bellringers are based on “National day of...”. The problems presented cover measurement conversion, geometry (polygons, perimeter, area, volume), data collection and analysis.

This is a digital activity which can be posted each day. Answer sheets are provided in three options. Teachers can choose between sheets with or without reference items.

Great practice of those skills which don't get as much attention.

This engaging activity will have students practicing their geometry skills while they work their way through stations using pi to solve problems. Students will be directed to color areas of a color sheet with specific colors based on their answers.

• finding circumference when given radius or diameter
• finding area when given radius or diameter
• finding volume when given radius and height

I allow students to use calculators on this activity when we are short on time. There are opportunities to practice working with decimals.

Solve WORD PROBLEMS involving AREA AND CIRCUMFERENCE OF CIRCLES with this engaging, independent Pi Day math activity! 7th Grade CCSS.7.G.B.4

Directions for Use:

*Students will be given the Word Problem page along with the Pi Symbol Page. These may be printed front to back if you choose.

*Students will answer the first question on their Word Problem page. This will lead them to one of the dots on their Pi Symbol page. They will make a straight line from the dot next to the answer for #1 to the dot that is next the answer to #2 (then from #2 to #3). They will start a new sequence of lines for each set.

*I recommend reading aloud the directions on the paper but also reiterate what was stated above so students truly understand the process of this activity.

*Allow students to decorate and color.

This project assesses students ability to draw rectangles, triangles, parallelograms, and trapezoids of given areas on a scaled grid. They will need to be able to use the area formulas to work backwards to find side lengths that fit the requirement for each animal and use the formulas to show that their area calculation is correct.

A detailed MYP Criterion D (Applying Mathematics in the Real World) Rubric is included.

I spent about 2 and a half 90 minute class periods on this project and many students needed to spend some time on it at home as well. I also included several days of activities I did to prepare my students for the skills they would need.

This activity includes shapes with two columns. One for students to find the correct numbers substituted into the formula correctly, and one with the final answer (area or missing side length). There are several distractor cards that do not match with any of the problems so students have to pay careful attention to make sure they are choosing the correct card.

This also includes an independent follow up worksheet that does not come with cards so students have to write in the formula and answer. It also has several challenging extension problems for students/groups who finish early.

Students color the answers to their math problems, but if the answer is not there, they made a mistake! Instant feedback is great for students!!

Students solve problems and know if they are making mistakes immediately! This worksheet is great for critical thinking, error analysis, and problem-solving.
