7th Grade Close Reading Graphic Organizers

Are you looking for an interesting way to integrate your students' love for anime and your love for literary elements? This front and back worksheet can be assigned virtually or printed for independent work. Students will watch an episode of their favorite anime and analyze for setting, conflict, theme, mood, and symbolism. This resource can be used for extension work, passion projects, or a flex day in ELA.

Students love Kwame Alexander's verse novel The Crossover, and I love the rigor of these power worksheets! His novel is organized into sections just like a basketball game including:

“ Kids really got into using these…great reinforcement.”

These tracking bookmarks will have each student highly engaged with their silent reading books. Whether you want to enrich vocabulary, hi-light the study of literary devices, or zone in on flavorful idioms, these three bookmark trackers allow students to see these elements in their self selected re@ding materials.

Included as well, is a book selection card which is designed to be used with the Accelerated Reading program. These cards completely solved the problem of students not having something to read. It was mandatory in my classroom that students have a silent reading book at all times. If they were nearing the end of a book these cards were a lifesaver I could at my leisure hand pick a book for my own classroom library and have it on their desk ready to read!

The PDF file is organized so that the bookmarks may be copied back to back and folded lengthwise as they will be keeping them in their books until they are completed. If they complete the bookmark before the end of the novel, then they may have a second bookmark. Every new book starts with a fresh tracker!

Bookmarks can be completed and turned in for a reward or bonus points. Some students are just excited to spot classroom topics in their own books. Many will share their unique findings with the teacher and their classmates! Tons of students used multiple trackers, and it WAS NOT REQUIRED!
