7th Grade Back to School Projects

Need a fun way to introduce Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets to upper elementary or middle school students? This great lesson incorporates back to school themed art as students learn the basics of Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. First, they'll create a quick pixel art from a given example and then they'll create their own! These are also fun lessons to use if you just need something for a one day lesson. Perfect for the beginning of the school year too.

The project, Introduction to Me – Infographic in Canva has students combine text, images and data to communicate information about themselves as an introduction. This is a perfect activity at the beginning of the year. It utilizes the free Web 2.0 tool Canva (www.canva.com). No download is required to use the product, making it easy for teachers who are not able to download software on classroom computers to still give their students a choice in learning.

In this lesson, students are provided with a quick tutorial, as well as links to other resources to help them with their designs. The tutorial is intended to help students get started with the program and then use the resources within the program to refine their creations.

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.

Setting SMART Goals is a lesson that helps students identify and plan goals for school or their personal life by utilizing the SMART method of goal planning (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Timely). This is a great lesson to start off a new semester or a new year.

In these lessons, students are provided with an introduction to the goals methodology and suggested resources for whole class activities are included to introduce the lessons. Next, students brainstorm with a small group and then work individually to craft their own individual goal. This project was created for middle school students but would easily be adaptable to any age group.

With this editable and printable worksheet (pdf and Google), student engagement increases as they learn how everyday activities are related to science. Get your students excited about project based learning in your classroom.

This guided research project allows your students to apply scientific knowledge in a creative way. Exemplars are included to give your kids a place to start and to get their creative juices flowing. This project can be used for distance learning or in person. It can be easily assigned digitally or on paper.

Students will also get a kick out of the hidden messages included on each brochure...one reads "GOOD LUCK!" and the other reads "YOU'LL LOVE 7TH GRADE!" In order to decipher the secret message, students simply close one eye and tilt back the image until it's almost flat. Turn it sideways, then look again for the second message!
