6th Grade Spring Printables

As the winter days wind down and the spring weather approaches, many come out of hibernation. The spring season is often a time for children to play outside, participate in outdoor sports, and just enjoy the feeling of being outside in the fresh air. However, during this warm and bright season, it can also be a time of anxiety for children. Children in the upper elementary and middle school grades typically take standardized testing, which is mandated by the state. The months of April and May can actually be quite daunting for some students, which is why this spring yoga sequence is such a great addition to children’s routine. In teaching students yoga poses and breathing techniques, not only can they learn something new but they can also learn techniques that can help ease their stress and anxiety, especially when it may come to test taking.

• Place students into random partners and give each set of partners a water bottle to flip
• Print discussion cards for each group
• Have students get out paper for scoring
• The oldest student flips first
• If they flip the bottle and it lands upright, the flipper gets 2 points, and then its their partners turn to flip
• If they flip the bottle and it does not land upright, they have to draw and answer a random question
• If the flipper answers the question, they get one point. If the student does not answer or says “I don’t know,” the OTHER student gets the point and they get to take their turn
• play for 10 minutes and switch partners!

Are you looking for a FUN way for students to practice comparing fractions? Then this color by number activity is for you and your students! Students solve 9 problems where they compare 2 fractions. Each answer is correlated with a color. They use the problem number and the color they found to add to the Mandala Ladybug coloring page.

This resource would be great as a differentiated activity during stations or centers. There are three levels of challenge, depending on what you think your students need:

1. Comparing fractions with the same denominator
2. Comparing fractions with the same numerator or denominator
3. Comparing fractions with different numerators AND denominators.

Each sheet has the answers in the same spot for easy correcting no matter which coloring sheet your students are doing.
