The “What Will My Car Cost?” project allows students to build skills in Internet research and critical thinking as they research costs for a car and then compute and compare payment options using Microsoft Excel. First, students research the cost for two car options (one used and one new) and then compare financing and payment options for these using formulas in Microsoft Excel. The step-by-step directions were created for Microsoft Excel 2016, but could easily be used with earlier versions of the software. Editable templates and samples are provided for both Microsoft Excel 2016 and earlier versions (2007-2013).

The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be adapted for high school students.

Introduction to Adobe Photoshop gives students a step-by-step tutorial to learn the beginning commands of Adobe Photoshop. After following the instruction (screen shots are included), students combine their “before” and “after” pictures into a simple PowerPoint (or Google Slides) to make grading easy. Finally, students complete a short creative activity to demonstrate their understanding of their learning. Instructions are for the paid PC version of Adobe Photoshop CC (2014 or 15), but are easily modifiable for Apple/MAC computers. Students will learn about birds' different adaptations to help them survive the cold winter months. The quest takes place at Cornell University's Lab of Ornithology. They can work with partners (I find students are most engaged this way) to learn about different adaptations as you act as the facilitator. It is also perfect for individual distance learning.

The student questions are included in both a print version and a digital (editable) version to make it easy for students to complete the lesson digitally or on paper. Also included with this unit is a word search puzzle with a full answer key. Additionally, after these introductory activities, students complete a video project using the free Web 2.0 tool, Kizoa (www.kizoa.com).

This lesson is intended to be an introduction to the topic and was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in upper elementary or high school as well. This is also a great lesson to leave for a substitute teacher!

Basic Photo Editing in Adobe Photoshop gives students a short lesson to learn the basic skills needed for photo editing: red eye correction, combining pictures and changing backgrounds, re-sizing, cropping, and removing imperfections. The lesson provides step-by-step instructions and also includes links to tutorials students can use as they need to complete the lesson.

This was created for an 8th grade Information Technology class, but is appropriate for upper elementary through high school as a starting point with editing in Adobe Photoshop.

Exploring the Ocean Blue: A Web quest, will introduce students to our oceans. There are nine informative web questions. Fun Facts, comprehension questions,extension activities and links are also provided as is the key. Can be used as part of a unit on oceans, for Earth Day, World Ocean Day or as an activity for a Friday, before a vacation break or as an end of the year activity. This can be a one day class resource or used for a couple of days depending on whether the activities(creative writing/art work/online simulation games, etc.) are used with the students.

Learn about Jacques Cousteau with this Reader's Theater Script: Oceanographer, photographer,filmmaker, scientist, writer, inventor, Cousteau spent his life studying the oceans and the marine life that lived in the oceans. His books and films on his studies sparked much interest in our oceans and created an awareness about the need for marine conservation. Part of my Ms. Bie Ografee Talk Show Series where Jacques Cousteau is a guest on her talk show and answers questions of her studio audience.
