6th Grade Excel Spreadsheets

The Smart Seating Chart - Never Write a Seating Chart Again!

By Blooming Through High School

How Does It Work?

It’s Magic!

Actually it’s all Made Using Excel Formulas and Cell References.

I HATE writing seating charts and I made these so I wouldn’t have to anymore.

But I didn’t stop there... I wanted a way to organize students more efficiently for checking work and giving feedback, as well as having a way to modify my seating chart based on my instructional needs, so I made all kinds of seating charts and used my knowledge of Excel to make this SMART. (How to instructions and videos are included!!)

What Can You Do With This?

  • Sort students by mastery to focus on a specific part of the classroom for intervention
  • Sort students by work speed to give feedback to students who may work more quickly, and give those students who may work slower more time to complete their assignment before having feedback.
  • Sort student translators with non-native speakers for assistance.
  • Add a column with #1 (and sort) to designate students who may be on the cusp of advancing .These students will be at the front of your check-ins during independent practice.
  • Quickly see what classifications students might have (Special Education, 504 plans, Emergent Bilinguals) so you can provide supplemental materials required by law or your school.
  • When you print this out, the Legend is not visible to students or to a substitute. Student information will not be shared outside of the circle it needs to stay in. (requires numbers or letters in the columns)
  • Change your seating chart instantly to adapt student seating based on instructional goals.
  • Use this column under the student's name: (HW/Late/Beh) to track homework submission, tardiness, and behavior - see trends on a weekly basis.
  • Use the column with 1 2 3 to track the student's mastery on a particular day OR how often you have checked in with them.
  • Best of all, you only need to copy and paste your student names to get started. Everything else will auto populate in the seating chart!

Back to School Digital Escape Room (With Student Work Pages)

By Miss Yous Clues and Resources

This resource is a back to school digital escape room that has three rooms with 10 codes to decipher in each. Students will use a pigpen cipher, emoji code and letter wheel to solve 30 total coded words that are all school related. As students solve the codes, the picture of a lock next to the answer will automatically open. When all 10 coded words have been answered correctly, a key will pop up automatically at the bottom of that page. As students collect these keys, they will appear on the first Google Sheet Page labeled "Directions and Key Collection Page." When all three keys have been collected, a message saying "You Did It!" will appear on the Directions and Key Collection Page.

Students will navigate from room to room using the bottom tabs on the Google Sheets pages labeled:

-Directions and Key Collection Page

-Room 1

-Room 2
-Room 3

This is a fun, engaging activity to do in the first week or two of school as you are meeting new students, getting into the routines but need activities to fill the time before academics begin. Included in this is the digital escape room, directions/answer key and student work pages that can be printed if a separate page is needed with the ciphers or coded messages is needed.

This great lesson incorporates Spring themed art as students learn the basics of Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. First, they'll create a quick pixel art from a given example and then they'll create their own! These are also fun lessons to use if you just need something for a one day lesson.

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.

Files Included

• Teacher & Student Resources

• Introduction to Pixel Art Lesson (Microsoft Excel project) with tutorial

• Introduction to Pixel Art Lesson (Google Sheets project) with tutorial

Includes instructions and samples for these pixel art designs:

I've used this with 7th and 8th graders who used their free time to create even more art! I hope your students have as much fun as mine did learning Excel!
