6th Grade Classroom Community Flash Cards

This basic ESL English bundle helps to review vocabulary related to describing people, their physical appearance and emotions. There are templates for interviewing a partner, "investigating" one's teacher and more low prep activities.

Resource 1 Describing People

Included:

- Teacher overview and further activity suggestions

-Three culturally diverse panels of photographs for the game Guess who? Photograph panels can be shared with students to play with partners, printed (color) or used for the class to play with a projector.

-Three printable sheets with descriptions for students to match the descriptions to photos.

-Handout to help students ask questions for the activity “Twenty Questions”

-Ten hidden celebrity pictures for students to try to identify by asking “Twenty Questions”. Squares are removed as they ask each question.

-Templates for students to create their own “Wanted” posters with descriptions of a friend. Plus they can make up their friends "crime" and add a photograph if done in Google slides.

-Suggestions for projects for students to create their own “Twenty Questions” activity or students can write about their favorite celebrity to present.

Please note: This resource works best using a projector in class or if students can view copies on Google classroom. Printing the photograph grid in b/w would not work well for the physical descriptions. 

Resource 2

This ESL resource helps review basic personal questions. This is a great way to get to know your students. Students can interview their classmates to get extra speaking practice. Next they can either write about the classmate (All about ____) or about themselves with several templates to pick from (All about me!). Finally there are 24 personal basic profiles given with 3 suggested games and activities for more speaking practice with personal questions (i.e. How old are you? What is your favorite pastime?).

In addition to the pre-designed templates, there are blank options which gives more flexibility to stronger classes. There are 22 interview questions included which students can use for support while writing a paragraph. There is a simplified version also included.

Included:

-Four template formats including smartphone, retro signs, basic style or pennant flag

-Let students investigate you with "Who is my teacher?" (2 levels included)

-Students also become a detective with "Investigate a classmate"

-A list of 22 basic questions- this allows students to pick their own sentences or it could be used for an interview

Resource 3 - Emotions - Question of the day

This basic ESL four corners activity helps to encourage conversation with beginner students while focusing on emotions (Social Emotional Learning). This interactive icebreaker combines language learning and movement. Students will actively participate by choosing from a list of emotions and discussing their choices.

Resource 4- Emotions speaking and writing

This ESL English as a second language resource has activities to encourage conversation on emotions while improving language skills (SEL or Social Emotional Learning). Students can write in a daily feeling's notebook, think about what activities make them feel better and write down their preferred activities. There are several sheets to practice writing emotion vocabulary and grammar. Finally there are templates for a mini project where students can reflect on their emotional choices.
