How/When To Use the Growth vs. Fixed Mindset Scenario Task Cards

  • Mini Lesson / Guided Practice / Do Now: You can use 1-2 scenarios to teach/show students the difference between a Growth Mindset and a Fixed Mindset, or you can use them as a launch activity to prepare students for an upcoming lesson.
  • Role-Playing: Students can collaborate in pairs or groups to act out a variety of scenarios and demonstrate the differences between a fixed mindset and growth mindset. Role-playing activities can be used to expose students to the variety of ways they can approach situations with a growth mindset. This activity can ultimately improve confidence, communication, and assertiveness skills.
  • Icebreaker: This can be a great way to start a meeting, training session, or team-building activity. It’s also a great way to get students to get to know each other and buy into the purpose of an upcoming activity or lesson.
  • Play Writing Exercise: Students can work in groups to create skits or scenes then perform the skit for the class.
  • Writing Response: Students can be given a scenario to read and then write their responses. Students can switch papers with a partner who then reads their responses and determines whether they agree/disagree with their responses/approaches to these real-life scenarios.
  • Discussion: Students can discuss the Fixed vs. Growth Mindset Task Cards in groups or whole class. They can discuss things like “What would you do?”, “Why would you do that?”, and “What are some other ways you can approach this situation with a growth mindset?”

*******************************

▶️ List of Scenarios (Easy Access for Teachers – 4 pages)

Also included is a 4-page complete LIST OF SCENARIOS to allow easier access for teachers to read and select scenarios to work with. These are the same scenarios listed in the Task Cards!

French basic personal description appearances emotions describing people Bundle

By The Librarian's Language Loft

This basic core French FSL bundle helps to review vocabulary related to describing people, their physical appearance and emotions. There are templates for interviewing a partner, "investigating" one's teacher and more low prep activities.

Resource 1 Describing People

Included:

- Teacher overview and further activity suggestions

-Three culturally diverse panels of photographs for the game Guess who/Qui suis-je? Photograph panels can be shared with students to play with partners, printed (color) or used for the class to play with a projector.

-Three printable sheets with descriptions for students to match the descriptions to photos.

-Handout to help students ask questions for the activity “Twenty Questions”

-Ten hidden celebrity pictures for students to try to identify by asking “Twenty Questions”. Squares are removed as they ask each question.

-Templates for students to create their own “Wanted” posters with descriptions of a friend. Plus they can make up their friends "crime" and add a photograph if done in Google slides.

-Suggestions for projects for students to create their own “Twenty Questions” activity or students can write about their favorite celebrity to present.

Vocabulary Review:

Physical descriptions/Facial

Present tense verbs

Basic sentence structures

Please note: This resource works best using a projector in class or if students can view copies on Google classroom. Printing the photograph grid in b/w would not work well for the physical descriptions.

Resource 2

This French Second Language FSL resource helps review basic personal questions with core French students. This is a great way to get to know your students.

Students can interview their classmates to get extra speaking practice. Next they can either write about the classmate (Tout sur ____) or about themselves with several templates to pick from (Tout sur moi!). Finally there are 24 personal basic profiles given with 3 suggested games and activities for more speaking practice with personal questions (i.e. How old are you? What is your favorite pastime?).

In addition to the pre-designed templates, there are blank options which gives more flexibility to stronger classes. There are 22 interview questions included which students can use for support while writing a paragraph. There is a simplified version also included.

Included:

-Four template formats including smartphone, retro signs, basic style or pennant flag

-Let students investigate you with "Qui est mon prof?" (2 levels included)

-Students also become a detective with "Le Détective des Camarades"

-A list of 22 basic questions (with English for support) - this allows students to pick their own sentences or it could be used for an interview

-Blank templates that allow for more personalized sentences

-Additional templates to write about a classmate

-Twenty questions handout (with English support)

-Twenty-four basic personal profiles and suggested activities and games

-Bonus activity : Guess who ? Students write 8 clues and classmates have to guess who it is...

Resource 3 - Emotions - Question du jour

This basic French (FSL) four corners activity helps to encourage conversation with beginner FSL students while focusing on emotions (l'apprentissage social et émotionnel). This interactive icebreaker combines language learning and movement. Students will actively participate by choosing from a list of emotions and discussing their choices.

Included:

- Teacher overview

-New vocabulary with engaging images

-Twenty large photograph flashcards with emotions

-Over 40 slide suggestions for "Questions du Jour" / "Quatre coins"

Vocabulary:

Present tense verbs/limited conditional

basic vocabulary with images to help with comprehension

20 emotions flashcashs

Resource 4- Emotions

This French (FSL) resource has activities to encourage conversation on emotions while improving language skills (SEL or l'apprentissage social et émotionnel). Students can write in a daily emotions notebook, think about what activities make them feel better and write down their preferred activities. There are several sheets to practice writing emotion vocabulary and grammar. Finally there are templates for a mini project where students can reflex their emotional choices.

Included:

- Teacher overview

-Two formats for writing "Mon carnet d’émotions"

-Images and a supporting list to discuss "things that help make you feel better"

-Seven worksheet options for beginner students to practice writing new vocabulary and grammar (avoir/être)

-Two simple skits to practice new vocabulary

-Two templates for a final mini project

-18 emoji emotion flashcards

Vocabulary:

Present tense verbs/limited conditional

1 French/English lexique to help with writing - "activities that make you happy" and additional emotions

** Please note that the writing and images on this Google slide resource have been flattened and secured to protect my work (therefore not editable). As with every Google slide, buyers can add text boxes to write their own information or insert images.**

Pair these problem solving cards with the STEAM / STEM activities and use them in a variety of ways, such as: Makerspaces, morning tubs or centers, as an activity for early finishers, or rewards for a great day!

**Perfect for classrooms, distance learning, homeschool, and even parents just looking for a fun, adventure filled activity for their children.**

----------------------------------------------------------------

What’s included in each of the three sets in your download:

PDF:

►Easy to follow instructions for teachers and students

►30 unique full color and BW challenge task cards for easy cutting

►2 STEAM / STEM worksheets in full color and BW for early and upper elementary students

►Terms of Use & Credits

Google Slides

►Instructions

►30 Individual Google Slides for each daily challenge

►5 STEM / STEAM slides for discussion, with space to type in responses to the questions

----------------------------------------------------------------

How can you use these task cards?

⭐Have the task cards available in makerspaces, centers, tubs, busy boxes, morning baskets, as a reward, or available for early finishers to complete using ANY available materials. Students can even draw their creations instead of building them!

⭐Use one card or slide a day during morning time. Have students fill out a STEAM / STEM worksheet or slide, and discuss as a class.

⭐Use them for public speaking practice. Allow students to build and then show and tell with the class or their parents. They can discuss what they made, liked, what they would improve, and how it solved the problem on the task cards. They can practice speaking and listening skills, using loud and clear voices, and giving full attention to the speaker. Encourage students to ask questions to their classmates.

⭐Ideally the goal is to do one challenge a day, but you could certainly allow students to do more than one!

----------------------------------------------------------------

Why do I think you will love this product, and what makes my challenge set unique?

I love silly stories that bring humor and adventure to life for kids, but that also force them to use their imaginations in fun and exciting ways. This challenge task set does exactly that through the loose wacky stories where they are the main character. Silly scenarios, adventure and disaster, problem solving, and learning, are all part of the experience when completing these challenges.

----------------------------------------------------------------

The only rule is to HAVE FUN and allow those imaginations to soar!

**Please note that early learners may need some assistance from parents or teachers in reading the challenges.**

----------------------------------------------------------------

Back to School Four Corners | Mini Debate | Icebreaker | Digital Games 4 Teens

By Perfectly Planned Designs

Looking for fun activities for the first days or week back to school? Well, you found the right place...this classroom game bundle will get your students excited to be in school, create relationships, and get students talking and connected! Great for any time of year or as a back-to-school get-to-know-you activity! Students are always nervous on the first day and playing games like Four Corners is a fun, stress-free way for them to get to know their classmates, while sharing similarities about themselves!

►Use them as engaging class activities throughout the year! It's the perfect icebreaker for middle and high school!

WHAT'S INCLUDED....

1. Four Corners Icebreaker

Use this fun whole class activity to get your students up and out of their seats and making connections! You will find a few typical all about me questions, but the majority of the slides are geared toward the interests of teenagers, leaning into social media, musical artists, food, fashion and more! You definitely won't see overused questions like "what's your favorite color?" or "How many siblings do you have?" You'll see instant engagement as students realize this isn't another boring classroom game.

Simply print the included labels for each corner of your classroom and project one of the questions. Read it aloud, then students should move to the corner that corresponds with their answer choices. You'll quickly see that students will start opening up as they relax and feel confident to defend their choices.

INCLUDED WITH YOUR PURCHASE:

  • 50 Questions (Google Slides)

  • Includes a Blank Editable Slide

  • 4 Printable Classroom Labels

The presentation includes 50 get-to-know-you questions. For example...

  • Who do you think would win the rap battle?
  • Which music artist do you think has the best live performances?
  • If you could collaborate with any fashion brand, which would it be?
  • What's your favorite way to spend time online?
  • If you could switch lives with any celebrity for a day, who would it be?
  • Which fast food restaurant would you want to eat at for the rest of your life?

HOW TO USE IT:

  • first day of school get-to-know-you activity
  • icebreaker
  • brain breaks
  • morning meeting
  • teach respecting differences

2. Four Corners Mini Debate Activity

Teacher burnout begone!!! You AND your students will love this fun activity! Perfect as icebreakers for those in-between days during back to school when you don't have anything planned. This Four Corners Mini Debate Activity is a great no-prep activity that you can use any time of year for a fun, engaging activity that your students will LOVE!

Students will love moving around the room as you click through the 35 debatable topics - mostly controversial, but some are silly as well! This is perfect for middle school/high school, but teachers are encouraged to preview the statements and skip over any which you feel are too controversial for your student population. (I definitely stayed away from the most controversial topics).

►You will love this well-organized activity that allows students to voice their opinions, defend their positions, and even learn something new!

►The printable Reflection Sheet will allow them to reflect on the ideas presented, and asks them to discuss two issues that they may have changed their stance on after the debate and the reasons why. This is an activity I use in my classroom every year and I know your students will love it!

INCLUDED WITH YOUR PURCHASE:

  • 35 Statements (Google Slides)

  • Includes a Blank Editable Slide

  • 5 Printable Classroom Signs

  • Student Reflection Sheet

STUDENT GUIDELINES FOR USING THIS RESOURCE:

►If you agree with the statement, move to the side of the room labeled “Agree” or “strongly agree.” If you disagree, move to the side of the room labeled, “Disagree” or “strongly disagree.” If you’re not sure how you feel about the topic yet, move to the side of the room labeled, “Undecided.” (I typically have "undecided" students stand in the middle and hang the other posters in the four corners of the room.)

***Students should be prepared to defend their position even if they’re undecided.

BACK-TO-SCHOOL LETTERS FROM THE TEACHER:

  • This back-to-school product includes a letter that teachers can send home to parents and a letter that teachers can send home with students (each letter contains a different message).
  • The letter to parents comes with a boy or girl version (the pronouns are changed throughout the letter to reflect a male student or a female student). This letter has three color background options as well the corresponding backgrounds and clip art in black and white. Including all versions of the parent letter (gender, color, black and white), there are 12 pages.
  • The letter to students comes with three color background options as well as the corresponding backgrounds and clip art in black and white. Including all versions of this letter, there are 6 pages. Note: This letter does not require a boy/girl option since the teacher is using the pronouns "you" and "I" throughout the letter.
  • THE BODY OF THIS LETTER IS NOT EDITABLE! All versions of each letter have editable text boxes in the Greeting Field and the Signature Field. You can edit these two places on each letter if you choose. If you'd like to print the letters as is, you may write in the student's name and your own signature. Just for reference, the font is Miss Kindergarten by Kimberly Geswein and the size is 14.
  • BOTH LETTERS ARE ORIGINAL! I have NOT copied a letter that I found online and retyped it. This is important because you may want to mix things up and send a new letter home this year.... none of your parents will have seen this one (at least in 2016, as it was created in June 2016).

END-OF-YEAR LETTERS FROM THE TEACHER:

  • These editable end of year letters to students and parents include an encouraging letter that teachers can send home to parents as well as a letter that teachers can send home with students (each letter contains a different message and is ORIGINAL).
