Factors & Multiples Problem Solving Math Craft - Critical Thinking Math Activity

In this monster themed problem solving craftivity students must use their knowledge of multiples and factors as well as logic and critical thinking skills.
The problem:
The mad scientist Zorg created 2 sorts of monsters. He created Zios with 3 legs and the Zepts with 7 legs. When his family of monsters was complete, Zorg had created 52 legs. How many Zios did he create? How many Zepts did he create?
After students figure out how many Zios and Zepts the mad scientist created, they will complete a craftivity of his monster family by coloring or cutting out construction paper monsters and adding the appropriate numbers of legs. Students are also asked to write an equation to justify their answer.

Aligned to CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.OA.A.3 Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.

WAYS TO USE TASK CARDS: Ideas for fun holiday math activities and other ways to engage students before winter break
Play SCOOT- Place each card on a desk and give students the recording sheet. Students will scoot between stations as they solve problems.
Set up a scavenger hunt- place cards around room as students do a gallery walk and work on solving problems in pairs or independently
