In the late 1800s and early 1900s, after the American Civil War, the United States experienced a time of enormous industrial and urban growth. This growth gave Americans many opportunities but also led to overcrowding, poor working conditions, and inequalities. Progressives in the late 1800s and early 1900s fought to combat these challenges.
