Ideas:

  • Provide a bag or basket for grocery items to be put in.
  • Reinforce counting money with other lessons you provide.
  • Consider setting up “food banks” or trading systems in your classroom or home

Recommendations:

  • Cut and laminate all items; consider printing repeats of certain items (e.g. toilet paper)
  • use play cash register if you have one (pretend scanning only, as there are no barcodes) - also real or toy cash if you have them and don’t prefer the print version
  • Have people play roles - shoppers, cashier, etc.
