Halloween How to Carve A Pumpkin Writing: Graphic Organizers & Paper
By E•Fish•ient Teaching
Halloween How to Writing activity. This can be used for differentiation within your classroom. There is one graphic organizer where students can draw out their ideas and write a small sentence of what they drew. The second graphic organizer has students begin with an introduction, list three steps, and a conclusion. You can use both for the planning stages, students will just need to combine two of their drawings for one step.
Then there is a cute pumpkin paper for students to write out their How To Carve a Pumpkin essay.

Writing Intervention: Activities to Help Reluctant Writers Crush Writer's Block
By Betsy Newmeyer
Got reluctant writers? This no-prep writing intervention resource includes 20 digital writing prompt slides and 9 printable graphic organizers to help students crush writer’s block. Students will generate their own word banks for a given topic, collaborate with peers to discuss and refine their ideas or word banks, engage in short quickwrite activities to build confidence, analyze and revise bad writing samples. Once students have built up their writing confidence and stamina, students can then use their word banks to write informational articles, opinion pieces, and narrative stories, all based on the same broad topic.
Each of the 20 Google Slides writing prompts include a broad topic that kids probably already know a lot about, a photo and sound effects or songs for inspiration, and an editable bad writing sample kids will analyze and revise. The printable resources include word bank and writing checklists bookmarks for students to write on, as well as graphic organizers to help students organize and write their ideas. This resource also includes a blank, editable digital writing checklist bookmark so teachers can include the specific writing skills their kids are working on.
This resource is perfect for both Gen Ed and SPED teachers and can be utilized in a multitude of ways to best suit your needs.
I use this resource in my own Writing Intervention block with struggling readers. I have over 40 fifth graders who are reading at the 3rd grade level. After using these strategies and slides, my students eagerly tackle writing about any topic I give them. The fast pacing of these activities coupled with periodic collaboration with peers keeps everyone engaged. The kids even ask for more writing time! All of my students have reported that they feel more confident in their skills and enjoy writing now.
