2 French Children's Story Videos (Petit Poulet and L'Oiseau et la baleine) from The French Experiment are linked.

For your beginner Core French class, I recommend having students watch one of the videos in French first with no subtitles. Have them try to answer as many questions as possible from the accompanying worksheet. You might want to play the video at .75x speed if you teach elementary students.

Next, play the video once more, this time with subtitles. Students will be able to fill in the blanks they missed the first time around.

The last question for each of the stories allow students to think critically about the lesson each story teaches.

The worksheets are in English. The videos are in French.

I found this allows students to think about what they are watching more carefully, learning more French words along the way.

An answer key is not included, but the questions are very simple and you will be able to answer them easily after watching the video. I wrote the answers while watching the videos along with the students.

Don’t you want your students to have the opportunity to see baby chickens and ducks hatch? It is hard to incubate eggs in the classroom. It is messy, it can be distracting for the kids, and once the birds hatch you have to figure out what to do with them! This resource allows your students to see every step of the incubation process without all the hassle. This resource contains differentiated assignments that are designed to make this unit useful for teachers of all elementary grade levels. I would like you to know ahead of time that baby birds are a little icky looking when they hatch. Of course, they fluff up after a while, and you will get to see them once they do. However, the soggy, dinosaur looking baby birds could be a little frightening to very young students unless they are prepped. You could always skip the active hatching videos.

By November 1st, Santa Claus is everywhere, but you probably didn’t know that Santa wasn’t always the fat man in the red suit. In fact, Santa didn't get his iconic, jolly look until Thomas Nast, a political cartoonist, drew him that way. Before the 1860s, Santa was represented as everything, from a jolly elf to a tall gaunt man. In central Europe, Santa was even depicted alongside the Krampus, a devilish figure who punishes bad children.

This enlightening video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oO0MzHu3Tuw) by the acclaimed History Channel, describes how Santa Claus took the form we now know due to the creativity of New Yorker cartoonist Thomas Nast. Watch the video with your students, with or without subtitles, and then do the activities that follow in this ebook. There are activities for all kinds of learners, especially the younger ones.

After trade and communication between Europe and the Americas began following Columbus's voyage in 1492, many Europeans began to seek opportunities in the New World. One such group, now known as the Pilgrims, sailed from England to North America in 1620.

In 1620 the Mayflower crossed from England to North America. Filled to the brim with passengers, livestock, and supplies, they faced many delays before finally reaching the shores of the New World. The Pilgrims suffered and many of them died to establish a settlement in what is now Massachusetts, but through cooperation with local tribes of Native Americans they were eventually able to thrive.
