Vocabulary Builder Fill in the Blanks worksheets Level 1
By Peter D
Note to Teachers
This set of worksheets consists of 112 pages of Fill in the Blanks exercises. Each page has at least ten words or phrases for students to fill in the blanks in the given sentences.
Learning new vocabulary is an important part of language development. Instead of simply memorizing vocabulary lists, it is beneficial to learn new vocabulary words in some kind of meaningful context.
Fill in the Blanks exercises are effective at helping students develop their language skills in numerous ways. Each vocabulary word must be placed in the blank based on meaning of the sentence. This task challenges students to first understand the meaning of the sentence and then select the appropriate word. It is an effective task for developing cognitive skills as well as general language skills.
The vocabulary words in these exercise pages were selected from various stories that we have studied. These words are found quite commonly in written texts so it is useful for students to acquire these vocabulary words.
If students are unfamiliar with some of these words, then students are encouraged to use a dictionary or work together in small groups.
I have found that students enjoy these types of activities and that students can develop various useful skills related to language development.
Levels: There are four sets of vocabulary builder worksheets divided into four levels. The approximate range of grades for each level is listed below.
