This articulation resource was created in order to help Speech Language Pathologists target initial "th", final "th", and medial "th" at the word, sentence, and conversational level. This is a great resource to encourage generalization and carryover of sounds in speech for the phonological process of stopping and or any substitutions for the "th" sound. We know that /th/ can be a very difficult sound, so let's make it fun to practice. Research shows that children learn much quicker while engaged in play. This is the perfect game to help our students produce their sounds more quickly.

This is a great resource to use when children are stuck at the word level of a sound. Students will be very motivated to produce their sounds in these silly sentences.

MYSTERY SQUARES

This is such a fun game for children to develop their questioning and vocabulary. This is based on the secret squares game which you can no longer buy.

A hider will hide one token under one of the picture cards - without the seeker looking. The seeker must try and work out which card the token is under by asking a series of questions.

Contents:

This pack contains 150 picture squares in color

Example of categories in this resource:

Paying the game:

Aim: Guess the mystery square!

Set Up: randomly choose 25 cards and lay them face up in a 5 x 5 pattern.

Chooser a hider and a seeker. The hider will hide one token under one of the picture cards - without the seeker looking.

The seeker must try and work out which card the token is under by asking a series of questions.

The seeker can ask questions that can be answered by yes or no:

Is it transport?

Is it fruit?

Is it in the top row?

The seeker cannot ask questions that are not answered by a yes or no, such as:

What color is it?

What letter does it start with?

The seeker gets 7 questions to ask. Remove the cards that can be eliminated after each question.

The seeker wins if they can guess the secret square before they run out of 7 questions. The hider wins if they seeker doesn't guess in time.

The reptiles and amphibians file folder game allows students to separate 8 reptiles from 8 amphibians. Students can do this independently, with support, or with a partner.

How to Play!
Students are given a set of icons, such as fruit or leaves. Students determine which icon will represent a question and which will represent a comment. (E.g. Apples = questions, Pears= comments).

Each time a student makes a comment or asks a question, they place that icon on the tree. As the conversation progresses, the tree should be fairly balanced between both apples and pears.

You will need:

2 different colored markers.

How to play

Be the first to color in a connected path from one child to a snowball.

1. Each player will use a different color marker, highlighter or token
2. Take turns and read a word;
3. Mark off your word by coloring or covering your hexagon;
4. Win the game by coloring in a connected path from one side to the other before your opponent.
5. You can move anywhere on your turn so try and block your opponent but still try and make your connected path.
6. The “snowflakes” allow you to jump over the hexagon without coloring it in. These are useful for when your opponent has blocked you.
7. Which child can be the first to start the snowball fight?

The games are an extension to Core Lessons:

Step 6: word work

The games are a great way to provide extra practice in blending to reinforce the student’s ability to decode and to blend sounds together. Additional practice can help with automaticity in decoding;

Once the student has received the lessons on the new concept work, the games can be used for additional practice at word-level skills. The student can read the word for reading practice while they are playing a fun and engaging game.

The students can spell the word using their manipulative letters or a whiteboard and marker. Ask them to read the word to their playing partner, their playing partner can spell/write the word.

In this product, students are provided with three winter background boards on slides 3-5 that can be printed out and enlarged or kept the original size. This articulation resource was created in order to help Speech Language Pathologists target prevocalic "r" and vocalic "r" (intial /r/ and final /r/) at the word, sentence, and conversational level. Target carryover of initial /r/ and final /r/. This will encourage generalization of sounds in speech for the phonological process of gliding of liquids. We know that initial-r and final-r are very difficult sounds, so let's make them fun to practice. Research shows that children learn much quicker while engaged in play. This is the perfect game to help our students produce their sounds more quickly.
