3rd Grade Science Guided Reading Books

This special education science bundle includes nine topics with the use of adapted books and corresponding task boxes. All of the visual supports are repeated through the adapted books and task boxes to provide repetition and retention. Task boxes provide students the opportunity to practice fine motor skills with the unique puzzle designs.

Adapted Books:

This special education science activity helps students learn through adapted books. Students can engage in this activity by matching visuals to each page as they learn about the different science concepts.

Science Task Box Picture Puzzle:

Have students cut and glue the puzzle pieces to match the board for fine motor practice or laminate and velcro for repeated use.

Firstly, there are ten reading comprehension activities, or informational texts, about:

• Mount Everest
• Children of the Industrial Revolution
• Roswell
• William Shakespeare’s Macbeth
• The Transatlantic Slave Trade
• The Great Plague
• Martin Luther King
• Abraham Lincoln
• Ancient Olympic Games
• Mars – The Red Planet

These activities require NO PREP and have a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. All texts then have an extension activity, crossword puzzle and wordsearch activity for those fast finishers. Answers, for teacher use, are on the final page of each document.

Then, there are two biography writing units about Martin Luther King and Abraham Lincoln, and two informational writing units about Mount Everest and the Ancient Olympic Games. The units have been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.
